"So they lived, these men, in their own lusty, cheery fashion—rude and rough, but honest, kindly and true. Let us thank God if we have outgrown their vices. Let us pray to God that we may ever hold their virtues. The sky may darken, and the clouds may gather, and again the day may come when Britain may have sore need of her children, on whatever shore of the sea they be found. Shall they not muster at her call?"

It appears Iran dumped mines at random into the straight of Hormuz and has no idea where they are.

@forallcurious There's no way German politicians will allow anything so successful to come out of their country.

@kaskalLLC @threejs Is this to approximate "vision". Basically dynamically identifying whatever is in front of the avatar and having it categorize? Like...bootleg LiDAR?

some more progress on the face-raycast navmesh production to simulate real embodiment on the avatar and allow it to be dropped in to any environment without a global navmesh! also slightly improved ik stair stepping but that still needs work too, this is all in @threejs

Devs are … fun. Every reply is either: 1. You should do origin shifting (the thing I literally say I’m doing in the second paragraph) 2. Wow what a dummy just use 64 bit floats / integers (sigh…) 3. Wow that’s actually hilarious, leave it in (best replies)
Jamon@jamonholmgren

Floating point precision gets pretty bad at 500 kilometers from the origin point 😅 Working on an origin shifting system, but it's slow going, given my terrain system doesn't support it and I'm having to do a bunch of C++ wrangling, compiling, reloading ... not the fastest feedback cycle

I couldn't see Artemis II launch in real-time yesterday, so I watched the "TiVoed" version this morning with my son. 😂 God, what a beautiful thing! It almost makes you forget about the amateurism that surrounds us daily. How great it must be to have worked in this project. 😍

The moon has long been a shared locus of imagination and significance for Indigenous peoples. With the return of lunar missions, it is now a frontier for industry. Writer Michelle Cyca explores the economic and colonial logics shaping this transformation. thewalrus.ca/with-the-artem…
