Zionism is the nationalist movement of the Jewish people that emerged in late 19th-century Europe as a response to pervasive antisemitism, advocating for Jewish self-determination and the establishment of a sovereign homeland in their ancestral Land of Israel (historically known as Palestine). Formalized by Theodor Herzl at the First Zionist Congress in 1897, it combined diplomatic efforts for international recognition, Jewish immigration (aliyah), land acquisition, and cultural revival, including the revival of Hebrew, ultimately leading to the founding of the State of Israel in 1948 after the Holocaust and the end of the British Mandate.
Old Zionism, dominant in the pre-1970 era, was largely secular and pragmatic, spearheaded by Labor Zionists such as David Ben-Gurion. It prioritized practical state-building through socialist-inspired kibbutzim and institutions, the absorption of Jewish immigrants, and securing sovereignty within defensible borders, as evidenced by acceptance of territorial compromises like the 1947 UN Partition Plan and focus on national security amid the 1948 and 1967 wars. The goals and objectives of Old Zionism were completed at this time, relegating Old Zionism to a historical movement that no longer exists.
New Zionism, which gained prominence post-1970 following the transformative 1967 Six-Day War and accelerating in the 1970s, asserts more expansionist territorial claims rooted in biblical, historical, and national rights. Influenced by religious and Revisionist ideologies, it promotes Jewish settlement in the West Bank (referred to as Judea and Samaria), views these areas as integral to a “Greater Israel,” and opposes significant territorial concessions, framing full control of the biblical homeland as essential to Jewish destiny and security.
Christian Zionism is a belief held primarily by Evangelical Protestants that the return of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel and the establishment of the modern State of Israel fulfill biblical prophecies, serving as a prerequisite for end-times events and the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Adherents actively support Israel politically and financially, viewing such backing as alignment with divine will and a blessing to their own nations. It is estimated that Christian Zionists, who assert tremendous control in U.S. politics, outnumber Jewish Zionists by a ratio of at least 10 to 1.

Thank you to @SenSanders, @ChrisVanHollen, @SenJeffMerkley, and @SenPeterWelch for your unwavering efforts to block the sale of weapons to Israel. By continuing to provide arms and other military support to Israel, the U.S. government risks complicity in serious violations of international law, including genocide. The Senate must VOTE YES on these Joint Resolutions of Disapproval and stop the sale of more than $650 million in weapons to Israel. bit.ly/4lBnMAK

@TRHLofficial @marklevinshow Is Levin going to call Trump an anti-semite for criticizing the Israeli strike on Pars?

@marklevinshow We can deport you too, I suppose.

@MaxBlumenthal Is it anti-semitic when Trump criticizes Israel striking oil infrastructure?

Everyone knows Trump approved the terrorist Israeli strike on South Pars, triggering Iranian retaliation which will drive up energy prices globally
Now that Iran has reclaimed escalation dominance, Trump is lying to calm markets

Please pray for little Lebanon, dear to us because — among other reasons — it is the homeland of our beloved mentor, Brother Francis, who was born 30 miles outside of Beirut.
Our Lord’s Sacred Feet walked in the Lebanese cities of Tyre and Sidon. Christians who are no threat to Israel are being murdered in obvious war crimes.

🙏🏼⛪🙏🏼✝️👇PREGHIAMO
Saluti cordiali,
Vescovo Nassif

@Camila_Rocha For example what could keep a Church in charge of the state from problems of the past? Rulers of both Church and State having to take vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience? Or does democracy hold the best options for Catholic flourishing without persecution?
English

@Camila_Rocha I’m just pointing out some of the obstacles and issues when Church and State were welded together. We may need fresh ideas on the relation of Church and State.

This argument collapses under the law of non-contradiction. Religious liberty must acknowledge that all religions are equally true. If they are, it also asserts that no religion is true at all. And when truth is removed, power takes hold. The conundrum is not ‘Theocracy vs Liberty,’ but whether we are ordered toward truth at all.
Eric Metaxas@ericmetaxas
This is a misreading. Christians are obliged to work toward a biblically-based culture. BUT WITHIN LIMITS. We believe in Religious Liberty. Anything leaning toward theocracy is inherently against the biblical view. So Sharia & Catholic Integralism are un-American. VERY IMPORTANT.
English

@USCCB @ArchbishpSample Anti-goyism must be rejected. (racism)
Anti-semitism must be rejected. (racism)
Zionism must be rejected (racism & genocide)
English

Catholics are called to reject antisemitism and the lies and conspiracies that fuel it, and to stand clearly against hatred and violence directed toward our Jewish brothers and sisters. To defend religious freedom with integrity, we must also reject antisemitism.

#SaintJoseph cared for the family that the Lord entrusted to him. Guardianship means being attentive to others, respecting their choices, and caring for them. St. Joseph shows us that presence and guardianship are inseparable dimensions: we can only care for others by being present, and we are only present when we assume responsibility for the other.
