For reasons I can't quite understand, Arsenal have gone from being very popular with neutrals to being, well, rather unpopular. I actually think much of this makes sense.

For many fans, 'anyone but Manchester City' has become 'anyone but Arsenal' this season. As the two clubs prepare to meet in this weekend's Carabao Cup final, @Carra23 explains why Mikel Arteta's side have their detractors 👇 telegraph.co.uk/football/2026/…

@johncrossmirror What makes unpopular? For many years in the press, we were heavily criticised and since the FA Cup win in 2020, Mikel Arteta is constantly told that he has to win a trophy. This season, that looks more likely than in previous seasons and yet still we're being criticised.

The one in the cap started punching because she was told stop vaping on the train. People stepping in, and the boys start swinging. They started something that they couldn't finish and they got whacked up. Good. x.com/i/status/20349…

Guys please watch this video of some little cretins on the Elizabeth line. I don’t know if this is recent or old but I would have had time for that little curly Sue

Under Arsene Wenger, we played free flowing football and were still criticised. The negativity that gets directed towards Arsenal, you and Gary Neville were cogs in that machine. The mentality that you were pushing about us rubbing people up the wrong way is nonsensical.

For the past two seasons especially, pundits including yourself have said that Mikel Arteta has to win the Premier League title. Style of play is irrelevant because, what Arsenal could be criticised for i.e not winning ugly, can't be levelled at us anymore.

Since the 22/23 season, pundits such as yourself, have written Arsenal off at every available opportunity. You reveled in the failings on the pitch, and used that as a tool to mock. x.com/i/status/20349…

No it’s not me, it’s partly because of your fan base online, something I didn’t mention in the piece! The column is actually quite positive about Arsenal/Arteta 🤷‍♂️😅 Sunday is the time to get the cameras out if you win, not after a PL win in January 🙃😂
Terry Flewers@terryflewers

The gaslighting is beyond incredible…..it’s never been “anyone but City”……… Plus part of the reason Arsenal get so much stick is because people like you Carragher have overly attacked their manager, celebrations, style, and football while consistently writing them off over the past 4 season……😂

It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Manchester City. We are out of the Champions League, and the league title slipping further away. But even in the middle of all that, I can’t ignore what I’m starting to see from this team. There’s something building here. Playing against Real Madrid said a lot more about this side than the result ever could. Going down to ten men and still digging in, still fighting, still believing. You can see the connection between the players, the willingness to suffer for each other. And that kind of mentality is one of the hardest things to create in football. That’s why I feel positive about where we’re heading. This doesn’t fully look like a complete Pep Guardiola team just yet... but it’s getting there. You can see the outline forming. The intensity, the resilience, the togetherness… it’s all starting to resemble what we associate with his best sides. Give this group time, and I genuinely think that Manchester City take a big step forward next season. For me, it only makes sense that Pep is the one to carry that forward. This version of Man City feels like it’s being shaped in his image... not just tactically, but mentally. The players are buying in, they’re responding to him, and you can tell they’re fighting for him. It wouldn’t sit right if he wasn’t there to finish what he’s started with this group. Pep Guardiola's story isn't finished yet. There’s still something to prove with this team. There’s still another level to reach. He is the one to take us there again, to rebuild it, and to put Manchester City back where it belongs.

It's making me nervous all of a sudden all this praise on our players just before a massive game on Sunday no good, no good at all. Much prefer them to say we're bottlers or whatever they say about us. I was there for the Luton & Birmingham finals I can't go through that again 🤦🏻‍♀️

City fans with dodging the obvious truth. Why is no one talking about the fact that we played better without Bernado Silva who's got red carded, and we played one of our best football without him against Newcastle? Until city fans realize that Bernado Silva is a problem, the better for the club and all of us.
