People think it’s money.
People think it’s ‘just’ orthopaedics. It’s not.
It’s bad management and administration left right and centre in @CHI_Ireland
When the surgeon marks a pre-op MRI as urgent for my child … and the radiology department ‘re-assigns’ it as routine with a 12 month wait WITHIN 10 hours of it being submitted.
When genetics are needed and there’s a 15 month wait publicly or €1500 private in 2 days.
When sleep studies are needed and there’s a 6 month wait
When there is one special wheelchair to share between Crumlin and temple street for children in halo traction.
ONE.
When you try to go through the complaints process to make sure no other child is missed like our daughter was….and I have to then send in an 11 page rebuttal and objection as @CHIatCrumlin did not adhere to @HSELive framework policies.
That’s not the surgeons.
That’s not money.
That’s REALLY bad management by CHI senior management and staff.
Accountability is the only way to change things.
There is no point in a task force @SimonHarrisTD and of @DonnellyStephen meeting with surgeons when it’s the feed-in services that are broken all around orthopaedics also.
What they discuss and decide to change at those meetings DOES NOT filter down nor reflect on anything that the parents coming in the door are having to navigate. I acknowledge my privilege in being able to navigate that system. What hope have others?
#Spinaltaskforce @SimonHarrisTD @DonnellyStephen @BernardGloster will you meet me to discuss my experience and use it to change?
From someone who has experienced national and international standards of care for adults and paediatrics.
Research-led medicine where parents are fully informed and given truths. It’s when there is the absence of information that the void is filled with anxieties, misinformation and anger-all the while caring for a child disappearing before their eyes.
Good feed in services, accountable admin and supports so that orthopaedic surgeons, like our daughters, will be able to carry out life saving surgery.
Scoliosis isn’t just aesthetics.
It’s the twisting of every vertebrae.
It’s crushing lungs, heart and intestines.
There are amazing surgeons and staff in Ireland. They are being failed also.
