U implied it with 20% less food intake therefore 20% less strength. Otherwise you would have said 20% lower body weight but then there’s zero improvement in body composition if relative strength is the same after weight loss. So we are back to the same spot. Solid program strength loss should be minimal and relative strength should improve a lot

Yes u can easily add 250 lbs to your deadlift in a year lol. Ur missing point here. U can build strength and u can lose fat and hold muscle. Calorie intake is not main driver of strength lol. And cutting calories 30% doesn’t not mean strength falls 30%. Same day calories have zero effect on strength

@gregogallagher @AlexLeonidasAD So if you do a calorie surplus like that and deadlift 350, go through a smart and dedicated linear progression program, you can easily be deadlifting 500-600 pounds in 12 to 18 months. As proven constantly by strongmen and powerlifters.

@gregogallagher @AlexLeonidasAD If you eat 6,000 calories as someone with a 3,000 maint diet, then you're going to gain significant weight and likely will indeed be lifting a multiple of the weight you once were. Not 2x your body weight per se, but 1.5-2x the previous weight of the lift is not unreasonable

@gregogallagher @AlexLeonidasAD If your maintenance calories are 3,000 daily, and you cut to 2,400, that is a 20% reduction in caloric intake (ie energy intake). Why should you expect to maintain normal energy output if you cut your energy input by 20%. It's literally just math.

There's a tipping point where losing weight starts to mess with your lifts, (maybe after 10 lbs). Even if you keep all your muscle, you’re losing the mechanical padding and leverage that help with heavy presses. Basically, your body's 'geometry' changes, and that can make your numbers dip regardless of how much muscle you’ve held onto

@gregogallagher I don't understand how this could possibly be the case. The best lifters ever (like @AlexLeonidasAD ) will tell you to expect compound lifts to go down ~20% or more. Reduced calories means reduced energy.

@gregogallagher I absolutely disagree. Imagine telling a lean sub 10% bodyfat person that he needs the same amount of protein as the fluffy 20% guy. LBM is a much better way to calculate protein needs but bodyfat also must be considered.

Easiest way to hit your daily protein needs. 1 lbs of lean meat (can eat all at dinner or split it up over two meals). Greek yogurt bowl with some protein powder mixed in. That’s plenty.
