They are saying the quiet parts out loud now. They want you to hate women for not having enough babies. For daring to want to lead equal lives. They want you to hate someone who holds a different religion to you. For daring to practice it and pray. They want you to hate someone for disagreeing with them. For not sharing their values and standing up to them. They want you to hate. Its the currency of their world. Don't let it be the currency of yours.
Danny Kruger@danny__kruger

Nick Timothy and Nigel Farage are right, and Sadiq Khan and Keir Starmer are wrong. Small groups of people, of whatever religion, praying in public places is fine. And as a Christian country we should allow a special privilege for churches to lead services in our national spaces, like the Palm Sunday celebration that happens in Trafalgar Square. What we don't want is mass ritual observances intended to claim the civic realm for another religion, or assert the domination of another culture over our own Christian traditions. What happens in our national spaces is not neutral. People use Trafalgar Square, for celebrations and demonstrations, to make a point about the kind of country they want us to be. The Palm Sunday pageant reminds us of who we are - not as individuals (many or most of us don't identify as Christians at all) but as a national community, with the roots of our institutions in the ground of the Bible and our most solemn communal moments, from coronations to funerals, mediated through the liturgies of the Church. A mass Adhan held there, or in any town square, is making a different point: that Britain is not a Christian country, and that - inshallah - one day it shall be Muslim. This is unacceptable to the British public and indeed incompatible with our constitution. As ever with these debates, the issue is partly one of kind and partly one of degree. There is an issue with Islam itself as a religion which in most interpretations does not admit of pluralism or freedom of conscience, and therefore is inherently aggrandising, including over territory. But with a bit of confidence and a bit of toleration we could handle that - if it were not for the issue of degree. It is the scale of Islam in Britain, and the ambition of its leaders for greater scale, that makes the problem. The numbers of people who assembled for the adhan in Trafalgar Square, clearly and openly claiming the territory for a faith with no connection (indeed, with strong doctrinal disagreement) with the model of Western liberal democracy that Britain has developed and exported to the world - that is the problem. The numbers, whether everyone there understood it this way or not (and I suspect many did), convey an explicit threat to the foundations of our country. Being relaxed about other people's religion is a good thing, a very British thing. I don't mind modern druids dancing around Stonehenge in my constituency (arguably, though the historicity is tenuous, they have a claim to the place). I don't mind small groups of Hindus or Buddhists or Muslims demonstrating the reality of Britain's religious toleration by worshiping in Trafalgar Square. But let's not kid ourselves about this adhan, or pretend that we're just seeing another harmless expression of Britain's religious diversity. We are seeing an abuse of liberalism, led by people who are not themselves liberal; or - let us imagine they are acting in good faith - who are themselves deceived about what they are doing. It should not happen again. And it would be good to hear the Church of England say so.

@imageplotter Beautiful photos. I'll never understand how some people see such a warm, welcoming event as hostile and threatening.

Some positive pictures from Iftars I photographed in previous years. They were joyous & friendly, the majority of it was large communal meal sitting on the floor, I was invited to join. TrafSquare had small prayer areas for men & women, overall a brief element before the meal.

@NiallHarbison @shrewsmorris Go easy on yourself, Niall. There isn’t a single person on this planet who doesn’t go through this once in a while. Yes, some less and some much more, to breaking point. But we all do. Have a calm weekend.

My confidence and self worth haven’t been great lately and I just wanted to say thats ok so other people who suffer with depression or anxiety know that it’s ok to feel like that. I’m CEO of Happy Doggo and most people in positions like mine have to hide stuff like this. Most people in all positions In life do actually. It’s really hard to admit you don’t feel the best about yourself. That’s why I just write it down as I feel because maybe it’ll help someone. Between our team, partners and everything wrapped up in what I do there are probably 100+ people who rely on me. Add in social media, donors and everything else and that’s a massive happy facade to keep up. I’ve learnt though that it’s ok to say you are not ok. At the moment I’m going through the motions. Still working hard and trying my best but I feel a bit worthless. No self worth at all. I also have imposter syndrome. I know I can jus read the comments here or look at the dogs saved and I should be happy but it doesn’t bring me anything. I look in the mirror at the moment and can’t even really look at myself. No particular reason or spark for this. As people who suffer know it just comes in a dark wave like a fog. I could easily share some happy dog photos and smile and pretend I felt amazing. But I’d rather be honest and try to help others. I have untold amounts of support and good luck that many of you dont. So if you're feeling down or a little rough right now, that's okay because so am I, and it's absolutely fine to say that. Have a lovely weekend and be kind to each other ❤️

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan at the ramadan Tent Projects Iftar in Trafalgar square on March 16th 2026, "One of the reasons why we are the greatest city in teh world" "I want to say to my non-Muslim friends who are here tonight" "To my Jewish friends, to my Christian friends, to my Hindu friends, to my Sikh friends, thank you" "This is what allyship looks like" Your reminder that the Ramadan Tent project have held iftars - the evening meal during the month of ramadan for many years, including under four Conservative Prime Ministers with absolutely no issue whatsoever: ➡️ 2015 under David Cameron ➡️ 2019 under Theresa May ➡️ 2022 under Boris Johnson ➡️ 2024 under Rishi Sunak Trafalgar square is a hub of universal events. For example on April 3rd, The Passion of Jesus, a free annual open-air play, will take place between 12:00 PM and 3:15 PM There are 50+ events in Trafalgar square every year, the main religious cultural ones include: ➡️ Diwali on the Square (Hindu, Sikh, Jain) ➡️ Eid in the Square (Islamic celebration) ➡️ Jewish Heritage Month and Hanukkah events ➡️ Chinese New Year (East Asian cultural festival) ➡️ St Patrick’s Day Festival (Irish culture) ➡️ Black on the Square (Black culture & heritage) ➡️ Pride in London (LGBTQ+ culture, often ending there) In addition to which there are multiple cultural showcases too Everyone is entitled to disagree with whatever they wish from other people's chosen way of life, but Kemi Badenoch's suggestion that one faith should be singled out and not allowed to hold an event at Trafalgar square is sad

@Nigel_Farage The Passion of Jesus (Christian) Diwali on the Square (Hindu, Sikh, Jain) Vaisakhi on the Square (Sikh) Chanukah on the Square / ChanukahLIVE! (Jewish) These are the main recurring ones with religious elements (prayers, rituals, observances, or faith-based celebrations).

What we witnessed in London at the historic Trafalgar Square, in a country built on Judeo-Christian values, was a group of people attempting dominance over our capital city and our culture. We are not going to surrender everything that was built over centuries and defended at great cost in two world wars for us to be a free, independent nation. The British people will not put up with this any longer — simple as.

@dave43law Also, she seems to constantly make a point regarding separation at Muslim prayer. Many others pray with male and female in separate areas - coptic Christians, orthodox Jews, I think Sikhs, too.

Lokie is home but unfortunately has a broken left rear paw. Here's his x ray. The broken bones are easily visible. Something must have fallen on it. His foot is bandaged, he's on pain med, and he isolated in a pen in the living room with me so I can keep my eye on him.

@stoughton_p @WildscapeWonder It is all over the place. But I would be so happy if there was a roof terrace like that opposite Parly and the London Eye, that would make press photography and access to a large pen sooo much easier for the NYE fireworks. 😂

It was a privilege on Saturday to be elected co-President with Caroline Lucas of the U.K. European Movement. We come from different political traditions but are united in believing that our country's wellbeing is dependant on rebuilding our relationships with our European neighbours who share our values. I look forward to working with Caroline and Mike Galsworthy it's Chair in furthering its work. We were also given a rousing valedictory address by Michael Heseltine. His long career spans the entirety of the life of the EM since its foundation. It gives us confidence that the dismal consequences of Brexit for our country are a transient phenomenon that we can and will overcome.

@imageplotter oh yes there is xenophobia in all cultures and countries and politicians know exactly how to use it to win votes - sad is though, when you mention it, everyone denies it and that is the trick

So when is Nick Timothy, who used to be No 10 Chief of Staff in May's government and is now Shadow Justice Secretary, moving over to Reform UK? It seems his views are more aligned with that party. I hope Kemi Badenoch agrees.

@msjanebond007 Sadly, this is not just a UK phenomenon, that is the main problem. The same slogans and themes, pushed out relentlessly via social media, right wing influencer types and paid politicos and commentators dominate across many European countries. Big money behind all this.

Personally, I'd like to be home in bed right now, but can't leave until there is a vote. That vote is likely to be hours off! After more than 4.5 hours, we are only on Group 5. But the Govt wants us to complete a total of 13 groups. We knew this would be a *very* late night. 🫩🥱

Well, here we are at 9.30pm in HoL on last day of the Crime and Policing Bill at Report Stage, that's when we vote on amendments. We have reached the group on abortion, which is VERY controversial here. Lots of long speeches, lots of attempts at intervention, a heated debate. 1/n
