@geofflath Don't know if it helps, but just saw the two tweets at much the same time and as there are so many apps, developed by volunteers at that:- twitter.com/jonworth/statu…

@PeteBrownBeer Beer is always intertwined with peoples lives, individual, as well as history and culture. Written well you can almost live in it, and taste it too.

@eoghanwalsh Spezial Ungespundetes first; then the Weiherer Keller I'd say.

@YuriHegge I'd have sworn they have swan necks! But then I'll have had a pour like that before then. Still can come along for another ;)

Today's brewers have hundreds of yeast strains at their disposal, some stay loyal to their own house strains. In his new Critical Drinking piece, @ItsNeilWalker looks at some of the U.K.’s most celebrated house yeasts, and the breweries they’ve shaped. bit.ly/3OghZ20

@MelissaCole You can hardly sell the shares anyway, so it's not even really a pay increase. In the current climate who knows what they'd actually be worth if you could just sell them.

@whatjoewrote @eoghanwalsh Both of which aren't super easy by train. Then factor in the cost of the compulsory cabin, and that they don't much like foot passengers really. HS2 isn't going to go past Brum, so even if they drag the E* north it's slow. It all makes that overpriced night train more attractive.

@eoghanwalsh There used to be a passenger terminal (effectively) in Edinburgh but it got sacked off. So you're probably looking at Newcastle or Hull. Just another step really.

Feels like Scotland urgently needs a viable train link in to Europe. An overpriced night train that stops at London makes flying still streets ahead in convenience and cost.

@maddogwoof @europebarguide Frankfurt made me a temporary cider drinker. Some wonderful Apfelwein places. Beer - well I'll also be interested to see what you find!

@europebarguide Well jealous. Would love a return to Leipzig. Ohne Bedanken was great as a classic pub and Bayerischer Bahnhof for quality of beer were my two faves. Interesting to see what you make of Frankfurt as that's a potential trip for next year.

Kept it reasonably quiet due to the Covid situation but we're heading to Germany this week. Berlin, Leipzig, Nuremberg and Frankfurt. Vaccination certificate tattooed to forehead! 💉🇩🇪

@geofflath "... *might* fall under the contaminant regulation in the future." Sounds like it's all a bit vague still, so probably not enforced?

@robsterowski @fhteeth Ah! But thanks to Butcher's Tears, De Druif, De Koningshut, and In De Wildeman, Anstich isn't such an unusual word for the Amsterdam Engish (and Dutch) speaking seasoned beer drinker. Regarding the script I'm not the one to ask, it always looks fine to me.

@fhteeth I think most English speakers would have more trouble with Anstich than with Fränkisch, so you might as well have it all in German and add a translation in smaller type ?

@hopculturerefe1 @FatalGlass @indewildeman Brecht is a nice one. They're also bringing some of those beers (& Brezels) into NL themselves afaik. Love the relaxed Berlin bar style. Though transfer to Amsterdam sized floor space is a little too packed for my liking. (Not been in since covid-era - terrace has expanded tho')

My trip to Amsterdam last weekend turned out to be mostly about German (style) beers. I see an article about this coming in the future...

@FatalGlass @hopculturerefe1 @indewildeman De Druif (Rapenburg) usually has an eclectic range of lesser known bottles from Bamberg behind the bar. Also has an 'anstich' barrel or three on gravity on the bar every third Sunday of the month.

Industrial units or other 'reclaimed' areas frequently have a more relaxed social atmosphere from their more self-organised nature. They can feel more like a proper local with the associated camaraderie than your modern identikit regulated pub or bar.
