Yesterday in the village we held a bring & buy sale. All proceeds went to a charity supporting those earning just over £100K in the UK. These people can barely keep their children in private education & are now being forced to shop at Tesco’s . Please keep them in your prayers.🙏

We need Britain at the heart of a stronger Europe 🇬🇧🇪🇺 After attending the Europe Gulf Forum this weekend, it’s clear that now more than ever, strong partnerships like these are essential to tackling our shared challenges - from security & growth to climate and energy transition

The unanswered question is why Josh Simons threw himself on his sword and resigned his Makerfield seat for Andy Burnham? He ran Labour Together & along with Morgan McSweeny and Mandelson nurtured Starmer as Labour leader, and organised a savage campaign to remove Jeremy Corbyn.

No IDF soldier has ever raped any Palestinian. Period. End of story. And if you think a dog can rape a person, you’re different level ignorant. The entire blood libel of sexual violence by the IDF is the mother of all projections. Like many other things, want to know what Israel’s enemies are guilty of? Look what they accuse Israel of. Full stop. It never happened and never will. - The end

@SirQuinno When I first got on the internet there were CRT monitors, 33.6k modems, Usenet and IRC chat. And from the impression I got when I told Gen Z types about this, mammoths and pterodactyls too.

Always surprises me how many people end up engaging in arguments on social media and forums etc. You know, if someone types something obviously intended to provoke, you don't actually HAVE to reply.

Public Statement On Israeli Real Estate in Midwood Synagogue: Yesterday, a real estate event took place at Young Israel of Midwood involving the sale of land in the Holy Land, with no recognized Rabbinical authority backing this provocative event. Beyond the outrageous idea of selling land in occupied territories, the very notion of using a synagogue to host a real estate sale is virtually unheard of in the Jewish community. Such events are normally held in convention or expo centers. The reason for holding it in a synagogue is obvious: the organizers anticipated protests and sought to portray the situation as Jews being targeted outside a synagogue, when in reality it is a cynical exploitation of a holy space to advance the narrative that Jews are unsafe in New York. It is important to note that a significant number of New York City Jews are decidedly anti-Zionist, a reality that many Israeli-oriented institutions cannot stomach. They seek to use Jewish communities to buttress the claim that whenever someone criticizes Israel, it is automatically antisemitism. As a result, provocative events are intentionally brought into New York City, even into holy sanctuaries, with the expectation that protests and outrage will follow. Torah Jews wishes to reiterate clearly and unequivocally that we desire to live in peace and harmony with our neighbors. We are not proxies for the State of Israel, nor do we have any part in its wars or political conflicts. Our only goal and ultimate wish is to live side by side with our neighbors of all religions, ethnicities, and cultures in mutual respect and coexistence. We continue to hope and pray for true and lasting peace to reign speedily in our days. Rabbi Moshe Dovid Katz

@robertshrimsley @tnewtondunn You couldn't renounce a hereditary peerage either until Tony Benn did it. The necessary legislation would fit in perfectly with all the nonsense about the Chiltern Hundreds and Black Rod and the King not being allowed into the chamber etc.

There is a route for Andy Burnham to become PM without winning a Commons by-election first: he could be made a Lord. Constitutionally the PM just needs to be a member of one of the two houses of Parliament. This was Alec Douglas-Home’s route, who became PM in October 1963 as a Lord before winning a by-election to be an MP 20 days later. It’s an absolutely awful undemocratic look that could sink Burnham’s brand forever, plus of course Starmer may well not want to oblige his nemesis with a peerage. But these are strange and desperate times for Labour.

This week's Friday pub is MacSorley's on Jamaica St. There's been a pub here since 1861, then called the Clan Vaults. Philip MacSorley took over the premises in 1897 and commissioned architects Clarke & Bell and R A Bryden to build a new tenement with a pub on the ground floor.
