.@NESpower’s response to my letter is entirely insufficient. The company refused to take any accountability and is forcing Tennesseans to wait another week for full restoration of power. This is unacceptable. Whoever is responsible for this breakdown should be fired.

I’ve been as harsh as anyone on NES failures but this was finally a helpful press conference. NES finally gave specifics so that the public can understand exactly why this work has been soooo slow going. New guy who oversees the linemen is far superior at comms than the COO who we’ve been hearing from for days. Few key takeaways though I encourage everyone to watch this for themselves: 1) by tonight at 9 pm, website will allow you to enter your address and know if your outage is being worked on; 2) “very soon” (ceo really resisted putting any timeframe on this, you can tell she wants to but can’t just yet) customers will get specific timeframes for their specific outage; 3) CEO said absolutely everyone will be back up within 2 weeks (!!) but point of #2 above is to get granular restoration times to each household. If I had to guess I think she thinks it will take less than a week more to get everyone back online; 4) they couldn’t use all the linemen even if they had more because….best analogy I’ve heard so far…it would be like swarming them with finish carpenters before the framing of a house was even done. They now have that framing done (ie, power grid backbone repaired, roads cleared, vegetation cut and out of way) and can finally deploy the linemen to where they need to be. 5) They’ll have 1700 linemen deployed by the morning. 1100 as of today. NES has massive failures still to account for, but in terms of improving communication, this was helpful and they deserve some credit for improving.

Live Nation took no accountability for refusing to protect consumers. According to the @FTC it was company policy to turn a blind eye to brokers and bad actors buying up tickets while fans suffered the consequences. I pushed for real accountability to protect artists and fans.

@michaelpleahy Does the city of Nashville control NES? One of the city council just told me in a separate bread that they are totally independent private entity not controlled, directed, funded, etc. by Davidson County. That didn’t sound right – what’s the real story?

NASHVILLE: I listened to the NES Board meeting so you wouldn’t have to and it’s worse than anyone imagines. Plan on WEEKS with no power or heat. NES failures are decades in the making and no one planned in the slightest for any kind of emergency. The reason they’re so nonchalant about turning away extra line men is because they can’t deploy extra crews! The bottleneck is not the manpower, it’s a complete failure to implement proper processes before there was an emergency. No surprise that we have an archaic, tangled web of an electric grid. But the surprise is that the repair crews can only conduct repairs IF they’re paired with an engineer who knows our system. And there ain’t enough engineers! That’s totally incompetent. NES is not the only company to have bespoke infrastructure. I ran a billion dollar company with proprietary and complex systems. And that’s why you document document document. You have to create a knowledge base of your infrastructure so that if every current employee dropped dead, people could step in and still properly operate the infrastructure. This is a profound failure, with literally deadly consequences. Demand accountability.

⚠️ SCAM ALERT: Don’t fall for post-storm scammers! We have received reports of individuals charging homeowners upwards of $2,200 to repair damaged meter bases and other equipment. These scammers are often unaccredited or do not have the credentials to work in your county and are taking advantage of the current situation in Nashville to pressure residents into work that will not send a code release for their power to be restored. While it is true that homeowners are responsible for the weatherhead, service mast, and meter base, please follow these steps to stay safe: Verify Credentials: Only hire licensed and registered electrical contractors. Get a Second Opinion: A $2,200 quote for a simple meter base repair is often an extreme markup. Don't Be Pressured: Real contractors will provide written estimates along with their credentials and won't demand immediate cash or digital wire transfers on your doorstep.
