@Mike96W @mofarahjr @amdamsky @onetrainops even if i granted an upper bound of 10-15k its a break even or its a subsidy. of course that's an incentive. "hey, even if your application fails, you'll get most of what you paid refunded" compared to "take this risk and you'll have sunk all that money for nothing"

@Mike96W @mofarahjr @amdamsky @onetrainops sure, it probably would be cheaper, the issue is that it'd be creating another incentive to migrate in turn generating yet more costly deportations or paid departures. asylum seekers vastly prefer the UK over a lot of europe already due to incentives we've failed to crack down on

@Mike96W @mofarahjr @amdamsky @onetrainops lmao, that's not me saying they should be given 13k, it's that the one-off cost of their flight (estimated to be up to 13k per head under tory mismanagement) is preferable to their continued life long cost to the state

@lambda249256422 @mofarahjr @amdamsky @onetrainops This whole debate has gone on far too long. You’re currently here arguing that 10k is far too much per person, when before you said that they should be given 13k. It’s like you have no idea what your argument is at all. x.com/lambda24925642…

@Mike96W @mofarahjr @amdamsky @old_doozer @onetrainops a one off £13k payment seems greatly preferable to a lifetime annually recurring £41k cost, wouldn't you say? theguardian.com/politics/2021/…

@Mike96W @mofarahjr @amdamsky @onetrainops yes, it is. visa abuse has become such an issue in neighbouring Sudan that the government has literally had to pause all visas there and you think this doesn't happen?

@lambda249256422 @mofarahjr @amdamsky @onetrainops It’s not possible for an economic migrant from Eritrea to get a Visa to fly here. It’s barely possible to get a Visa here from Eritrea even if you had a good reason, such as work.

@Mike96W @mofarahjr @amdamsky @onetrainops I never said getting a visa from Eritrea was easy, just that it was possible, and given that it would cost under £4k to obtain one and fly out here, a £10k reward to leave would create massive financial incentive to game the system.

@lambda249256422 @mofarahjr @amdamsky @onetrainops And your logic is ridiculous. You claim that getting a VISA from Eritrea is so so easy, but then also claim that thousands of Eritreans are paying, in your mind, ~£5,000 to travel here. They cannot both be true.

@Mike96W @scoopin_ @mofarahjr @amdamsky @onetrainops no, a very recent visa ban has been applied to 4 nations, of which eritrea is not one. a visa ban... because of the extreme levels of sudden asylum claims off the back of a visa. what "extreme case"? this is so common even labour have stepped in to try combat it

@Mike96W @scoopin_ @mofarahjr @amdamsky @onetrainops you think an article by global initiative is... advertising for people to become smugglers? and what do you mean by "such people"? migrants overstaying visas account for about 40% of all asylum claims

@Mike96W @scoopin_ @mofarahjr @amdamsky @old_doozer @onetrainops If you'd bothered reading this article you'd find it corroborated my stats quite nicely; "Someone wishing to travel from Iraq to the UK could pay just under £4,000 to go overland through Turkey and Europe, while the price jumps to more than £13,500 for a journey by air."

@Mike96W @scoopin_ @mofarahjr @amdamsky @old_doozer @onetrainops I don't really care if it costs slightly more. the key to solving illegal migration is gutting all the incentives. Telling an Eritrean that if he makes the crossing he can get over 100 years salary and a flight back is simply increasing incentives

@lambda249256422 @Mike96W @mofarahjr @amdamsky @old_doozer @onetrainops There's still a cost to that, you need to hire people, arrange flights, process them etc. Effectively you'd have a form of ICE in the UK. Or just pay an entire family £40,000 to leave and that's the problem dealt with peacefully and quickly.

@danwootton @Malcolm_Offord Don't you understand that jokes reveal someone's true feelings about a community??? Do you believe, because it happened a few years ago, he has left these feelings behind?? The truth is that Offord is a reprehensible character and should be nowhere near the Scottish Parliament

I like @Malcolm_Offord more after reading his so-called "homophobic" joke about George Michael which the Scottish elites say should get him cancelled & banished from public life. IT WAS A JOKE! Years before he was Reform leader. Focus on drug deaths & rape gangs maybe, losers?
Hamish Morrison@HMorrison97

🚨 We're publishing Malcolm Offord's vile homophobic joke We knew what it was, so thought the public deserved to know too. You can read more about @ScotNational's decision to make this information public here 👇

@BrianLeishmanMP you are presumably aware that we have had a border and it has been protected by men with guns for a good few centuries now

An Immigration Minister in a Labour Government posing with a gun and tweeting about Britain’s border. There’s some people in charge of the Labour Party that have made a great institution that’s fought for the advancement of human rights and social justice unrecognisable.
Mike Tapp MP@MikeTappTweets

I was at Security & Policing expo 2026 today talking about the future of Britain’s border. We’re bringing in modern technology, better intelligence and stronger enforcement to stop smuggling gangs and protect the UK. A modern border that works for security, trade and travellers.
