@vosdscott This is a cute sentiment but clearly false. Borderline blasphemous. He never intended on selling the team. He said he spent because "You can't take it with you." Also no one thought they would fetch that much. Not everything is about money

If you ever reported or said anything along the lines of “Seidler’s spending is reckless or unsustainable or just because he was dying” or whatever, you got totally played. It was an incredibly lucrative and successful investment. I hope some of the capital stays in San Diego.

The price of housing is set by supply and demand. When cities let developers build a lot of new homes for rich people, landlords have to compete for tenants by lowering rents. When cities block new home construction, landlords can charge higher prices. This is very simple!
Scott Lincicome@scottlincicome

US cities that let people build more "luxury" apartments saw rents broadly fall - so much so that older, market-rate units in many high-supply areas are now cheaper than "affordable" housing. Shocking, I know.

@TooMuchMortons_ I mean you specifically mention Leo, Nett, and Baez in this post so technically you were right at the time?

I take it all back

I’ve been Preller’s biggest critic over the years and he still does dumb shit like his love for old washed up vets BUT even I can see the growth he’s shown. The biggest thing is the pitching development. The Point Loma lab embodies a lot of it. Guys come to SD and actually get better now. A lot of that is thanks to Niebla but it’s more to it. Let’s use Jeremiah Estrada as an example. First you needed scouts/analysts to identify the talent, coordinators/coaches to get him to work on the right things in the minors, then Niebla to continue to work with Estrada in the majors. That is organizational alignment and successful player development. Look at the younger SP group of Vásquez, Kolek, Bergert they have shown to be viable backend guys. There’s some depth behind that group too with Henry Baez and Braden Nett. That’s huge because they’ve survived some big SP injuries last couple of seasons which they wouldn’t have had in the past. I remember when getting cheap backend depth meant getting guys off the street and that never worked. Preller also has been pretty sharp with his SP FA signings like Wacha, Lugo, Pivetta, even can lump Martinez in there. Preller isn’t perfect but I really don’t understand the hate especially after last year where he had to cut salary and built probably the best roster in Padres history. His ability to replenish the farm is impressive and somehow he built the deepest young group of talented relief arms I can recall. I only care about the Padres success and I judge a GM/PBO by what they do and I objectively think Preller is more of a plus now than a negative. Yeah it took way longer than I would have wanted but it is what it is. If you look around the league there are is a lot of mid teams absent of stars. While Padres have star power with Leo waiting. Think people are so fixated at the lack of positional player depth they’re ignoring that it’s the easiest thing to fix compared to getting star players and pitching. I can go on about him finally finding the right coaching staff too but I’ll shut up.

Along a bustling stretch of Imperial Avenue, where immigrant-owned businesses have thrived for decades, a $25 million bike lane project is creating tension between city planners and local merchants. cbs8.com/article/news/l…

A woman apparently threw some kind of Molotov cocktail into the bathroom at our local park. And there were paint cans and chemicals that caught fire. Please continue to pray for our community.

This project is like a 5 minute walk from the nearest trolley stop and a half hour from downtown by transit. You should count yourself lucky they only allow 4 story buildings here because an unfettered market could easily be plopping down buildings 2-3x taller.

Ohtani has no shot against Scott’s fastball really liked that adjustment compared to last time out where he threw him only sliders. His slider also looks better now.

@olasis The photo I posted is the same place as your OP- Breezewood, PA. This is basically the same except without signs and drive-thrus, and off one much smaller arterial road as opposed to two major highways. I guess I just don't see how one is ok with you but that one is "a cancer"

@lessen I'm not opposed to rest stops being built on a road to connect two highways. I'm opposed to kind of "sprawl" development like that is seen in the photo. Service areas like these I would much prefer over the kind of developments the photo you are showing.

This is really what America is. This is a cancer of the landscape. And we need to fix and end this kind of development in our lands. #infrastructure #newurbanism #cancer
