As someone who uses their phone for *years* until it fails to work, buying a new phone every year is a confusing trend for me.
Buy it, use it until it dies, and run that thing into the ground.
Nothing is really that great on the next model you need.

Totally anecdotal, but a good number of the “buy the new iPhone every year no matter what” people I know are skipping this year. Why they found the iPhone 13 Pro meaningful enough to upgrade to but not this year is unclear.
