Do you see that dark smudge-like shape moving across the top of this morning's Pacific view from @NOAA's #GOESWest (#GOES18) 🛰️? You're seeing a satellite eclipse! Twice a year, around the equinoxes, the GOES satellites pass through Earth’s shadow and can pick up stray sunlight—creating brief streaks or glitches like this. Don't worry, it's normal. We caught a comet! ☄️ The Compact Coronagraph (#CCOR1) on @NOAA's #GOES19 🛰️ tracked #Comet C/2026 A1 (MAPS) over the weekend. According to @NWSSWPC, "The comet does not appear to have survived its close approach to the sun and likely disintegrated into dust and gas after getting as close as about 100,000 miles from the solar surface."
