Maybe this is a hot take but I’m tired of people using the word “tech” to normalize abusing exploits in a game to get an unintentional advantage. Marathon is a slow game by default, the heat system is in place so ur not perma sliding around like in Apex and that’s what the game is balanced around as well. Positioning is key and getting caught in the open can make u lose your loadout which is part of what makes the game really thrilling. Having a get out of jail free card with Thief’s drone cancel stuff is not cool or interesting, it’s an exploit.

Cryo and Ranked are coming and we're excited to see players battle it out over Tau Ceti and traverse into the big scary moon-like ship in the sky. We've put out a few posts about Cryo, poured through the variety of comments and feedback we've seen so far, and wanted to take some time to explain some of the initial decisions we've made around Cryo and Ranked with regards to weekend scheduling. So without further ado, here's what we have been thinking: We are of course always iterating and are open to looking at other options in the future, but the Ranked/Cryo Archive weekend decision is really built around three points: - Preparing: We acknowledge that players will lose a lot of gear on Cryo and Ranked because it is intended to challenge you to your limits. As a result of that, it's important that Cryo and Ranked feel like an event you can schedule towards, grind gear up to do, etc. The loop of spend time grinding gear to spend it in Cryo or Ranked is reflected in this choice as a weekly cycle. - Economy Talk: We have some great rewards on Cryo that kind of break the bank when it comes to economy and power gain. If we were to look at having it open all the time, we'd probably have to adjust how frequently you can earn these rewards so that we don't flood the game with amazing loot all of a sudden. - Logistics Time: Cryo and Ranked both have entry requirements (gear ante) that are built around the idea of you matching with other players on an equal investment level. They also both have a high level requirement to ensure you've experienced enough of the game to understand the challenges inherent to the game. This inherently makes the amount of people in that queue at any time unpredictable. Both of these experiences also need a consistent flow of players in the queue to make sure matches are full to retain the challenge. To reduce the match times and allow players to find matches quicker, making it a scheduled event means more players will show up during that window and feed the queue pool better. We also acknowledge that there are likely some who cannot participate on the weekend or are excited about the experience and want to no-life it for weeks, and we appreciate that. We'll be looking into what we can do to retain these considerations and potentially accommodate this in the future. Things we may iterate on in the future: - Staggering Ranked and Cryo queues more so they overlap less - Looking at changing the days we do either Cryo or Ranked - Changing the ante values of Cryo or Ranked - Looking at any other conditions (solo experience, crew fill experience, etc.) and iterating on it! Marathon is an evolving game and part of evolving is seeing how this initial launch plays out and adjusting as we go =). They are just people that like to break the game in order to get an advantage in every fight. In a game like Apex that led to some changes that are actually pretty good but Marathon is a different game. I don‘t want to lose my gear to someone who is abusing stuff like that. That’s clearly not intended. I don’t want my enemy to do stuff like that. Not because I can’t adapt but because it’s just not intended.

@MercifulKev He is… but I have no idea for how long the damage bonus is active. I guess it’s only for the first melee but whatever… it’s obvious that is too strong.

Melee damage in #Marathon really needs a nerf. This clip happened moments ago: I kill 2 people back to back, I am expecting the next fight… and still die to an Assassin with knife. Sure, my aim could’ve been better and I wasn’t full HP, but this still feels off, no? 🤔

@MercifulKev He definitely has the implant that gives you a Melee-Damage-Boost when crouching before but even that alone can‘t be it 😅

@nullcoma I just played it back like 20 times. And for the fact that this has happened to me before as well. It definitely needs a nerf. You can’t even do this much damage to bots that have blue shield so why is it possible on an runner?

I’m looking for #Marathon players in the EU region to grind Ranked with over the coming weeks 👀 I don’t expect to hit the highest rank immediately, but I do want to get there eventually. My main goal is to create content around the most difficult content in the game, and for that I need a good team. I peaked Master in Apex Legends and Ascendant in VALORANT. In Destiny, the content I enjoyed most was the hardest stuff like Contest Mode Raids and Solo Flawless Dungeons. I don’t tilt and I trust the process of learning from mistakes. @nullcoma I was using the destroyer ultimate last night and wiped a room of 4 people A guy waiting around the corner bum rushes me with a knife. He was taking shots and the tail end of the last rocket burst. Someone how still gets to knife hits in and knocks me.
