#datakeskus

Some sad news. Google is changing their developer policies requiring to show the home address and phone number of devs in Google Play Since as a #VTuber I'm unwilling to share these details, MeowFace will be deleted from Google Play in January Nothing I can do about it

@celeron55 @Starlink Well it depends, my area has 100-200Mbps 4G speeds at night but during the day it often drops to 10-20Mbps. Was going to get Starlink but the local electric company offered gigabit fiber.

@Starlink Most people in Finland have access to cheap and fast fiber and 4G works pretty well near the road network, but for those left out, Starlink is perfect

@falconerd I think that is cargo cult OOP, so many have misunderstood the original idea of OOP. Good thing we have finally moved from inheritance to composition

20 years of OOP: "Everything must be an object!" "Inheritance is reuse!" "Abstract all the things!" 2 weeks of data-oriented thinking: - Here's my data - Here's what I need to do with it - Done The OOP Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race

@SebAaltonen I am sure the MCGA 320x200x256c mode has something to do with it as those pixels were quite sharp. Also there was less blurryness on my C64 using PAL and Commodore monitor.

The modern "pixel art" style has nothing to do with the old 8 bit console games. They looked entirely different on CRT televisions. Pixels were not designed to look like blocky unfiltered bricks bad then. That's a new modern interpretation. Completely different art style.
Kitten 🐈@kitten_beloved

How old were you when you realized the retro pixel art aesthetic is based on a total lie and false nostalgia Digital artists of the 8 and 16 bit eras were drawing for a CRT on composite video, their work is almost unrecognizable with crisp edges

I think the biggest issue with OOP is that people think about concrete real life objects. Computer science is about data transforms, not about "physical" objects living in the CPU memory. Wrong abstractions lead to wrong data coupling. Which hurts performance and maintainability.

It's crazy to me how nobody knows how to build a laptop that matches the quality of an Apple MacBook Pro. Everything I've seen is a downgrade hardware-wise.

@ChShersh @potetm instead of throwing garbage all on the floor and wait for the cleaning crew to come and clean it, everyone will be throwing garbage only to the trashcan, like proper civilized men What issues does it solve? Always a smooth clean floor to walk on, no loud vacuum sound and disturbs

I can understand engineers who use Linux. I can understand engineers who use macOS. I really don’t understand engineers who use Windows (except windows app developers). By understand I mean I can see the value system they operate under. It just seems bad for non-Windows dev work

@mitchellh I use Windows because Linux UI sucks and I can use WSL2 and Docker. And most of my development is done via ssh on servers. Would have to manually install WindowMaker on Linux to make it usable.

@E_Megas I don't think the drama is big enough, in a month it will be forgotten, which is kinda sad. At minimum the community manager should do a public apology for excessive banning. No need to specify what bans were erronous, but it would show they are capable of an apology.

I will say again: Either Godot staffers apologize and/or are ejected from the project immediately, or it's almost certain that the Godot Engine project will be forked to route around the management in question. And it _will_ be forked. Enough people of varying backgrounds use Godot that they will absolutely not stand for this divisiveness and take matters into their own hands. Godot maintainers: I know if you think you don't double down for The Cause at this point that your "friends" in tech will take it as a sign of weakness, but right now it's either you apologize or you have your power removed from you. The Open Source community has encountered project management like yours before and nearly every single time, they've routed around those projects. So I would suggest you patch things up _right now,_ before your userbase leaves you with nothing.
BlackSageD : The Titanfall Evangelist 🤖@Black_D_Gamer1

To think i actually supported GODOT earlier this year.... What i don't understand, is why a niche game engine, has to NEEDLESSLY be divisive, in an industry where you need every last bit of support you can get!? Why even go hard in the paint for identity politics!?

Computers have insanely better CPUs and much more RAM nowadays, yet they feel slower than 20 years ago. I used to think it happens because computers do more useful work. Turns out, better hardware is more forgiving to crappy coding practices.
