Our latest work by Jennifer Pryor published in @ajpgi This not only provides insight into how the microbiota may influence responses to food, but also models the duodenal eosinophil responses seen in non-Celiac gluten sensitivity and functional dyspepsia.journals.physiology.org/doi/abs/10.115…
English

An exciting opportunity for anyone interested in organoid research. linkedin.com/posts/simon-ke…

Very excited to see our latest work published in @Nature_NPJ Gut and Liver by @EmilyHoedt. A long time collab with @PPockney identifies 16S and metagenomic microbial signatures at the time of colorectal resection that are predictive of surgical failure. nature.com/articles/s4435…

@simonkeely @HMRIAustralia Must make everyone a bit of a naturalist!
English

@simonkeely Now that my daughter is living with y'all in the place where there's a hundred things that you'd be "unlucky" to have kill you, she had this👇🏼 crawl out of her couch😱.
Before I come back down to visit you @HMRIAustralia, I need an ID of this creature please.🤔

English

@millsjc67 @HMRIAustralia Everything in Australia is potentially dangerous, it's just a question of HOW dangerous ;)
English

@simonkeely @HMRIAustralia Phew. Thanks. I won't cancel my next trip😎😁

@MarkPimentelMD Do you think that NAC is working solely as a mucolytic? It's a powerful antioxidant also.
English

Just published! This paper is a game changer for patients.
1. CdtB causes #IBS 2. Animal model shows #IBS is #SIBO 3. Rifaximin+NAC beats rifaximin in randomized trial. 4. E. Coli and H2S producers are key. Lays groundwork for our human study this fall. nature.com/articles/s4159…

Fantastic work @jasminewark_ . Looking forward to seeing it published!

First first-coauthor preprint with @GraceLBurns Blessed to work with the best 😎 The novel duodenal isolate Streptococcus salivarius AGIRA0003 promotes barrier dysfunction and IgG responses in functional dyspepsia medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
English

@hipacrocapig @GraceLBurns @Prof_NickTalley No, we compared several related probiotic strains in the study and only the patient isolate showed pathogenic potential.
English

@simonkeely @GraceLBurns @Prof_NickTalley So ingesting probiotic formulas containing S. Salivarious could increase symptoms in patients with FD?
English

Our new #preprint by @GraceLBurns identifies a potential pathobiont from duodenal #microbiome of functional dyspepsia (FD) patients. FDs have IgG against this microbe, which also targets tight junctions known to be lost in FD. @Prof_NickTalley #GITwitter medrxiv.org/content/10.110…

@PhilipAhern @arjunrajlab Australia brought in a scheme for funding innovative ideas in their main health grant program, irrespective of track record or prelim data but poor adoption by peer reviewers, limited $ in funding pool and grad return to focus on capability means it hasn't really worked.
English

@arjunrajlab I wonder a lot about how many major breakthroughs would make it through the barrier of grant peer review (bacterial repeat sequence grant lacks Significance etc.). Is there a way we can fix this?
English

A grant with this as preliminary data would never get funded.

Barry Marshall was convinced that the Helicobacter pylori bacteria caused stomach ulcers, but no one believed him. Since it was illegal to test his theory on humans, he drank the bacteria himself and developed ulcers within days. He treated them with antibiotics and went on to win a Nobel prize in 2005.
English

@PhilipAhern @wmuee Gah, I am about to give an immunology lecture about this today and now I will be obsessing about not knowing how to answer this. 🤔
English

@wmuee Probably! Could maybe mismatch to a level seen across mice with different twin pairs. But, I presumed this was maybe already known, or answerable theoretically. I just don't know enough about alloreactivity to know.
English

Ecstatic to share I've joined @Abbvie in my dream role as a #MedicalScienceLiaison for their Gastroenterology/Immunology team! I'm so very grateful to my research mentors @squeakyanimal and @DecMcCole and industry mentors for helping to make this happen.
English

@DecMcCole @mario_manresa @ucddublin So I see... I assume from the slide you're saying that you and I are better than @keely_stephen and Cormac at thinking outside the box? 😉
English

@ucddublin alumni @DecMcCole receiving the APS H. W. Davenport distinguished award in GI physiology and delivering an amazing lecture. Also, making the Irish flag fly high 🇮🇪

English

@mygutmicrobiome @PhilipAhern Yep, it's a picture from a workshop for Irish researchers traumatised by Ussing chambers....
English

@jay_horvat Pffft... They needed to include Sadhbh before worrying about the simples ones...
