American🇺🇸: “Nobody has ever landed on the Moon using the metric system.”

In the Year of Our Lord 2026 we have finally achieved ooga-to-booga translation
tom bombadil@Authw8
machine translation is allowing for unprecedented levels of normie-to-normie cultural exchange. first topic of discussion: sauces that can be applied to meat as it cooks over an open flame. we are all descended from hunter-gatherers i guess

@Duderichy It's amazing how bad some of the public commentary on nuclear weapons is.

@SFumoto @TradBarbarian I regretfully inform you that we can make our own sushi at home, too. More and more grocery stores carry sushi-grade fish. My town even has a Japanese specialty grocery store owned by a Japanese family. I love their お握り!

Thank you!
But asking Japanese people to cook meat like that is about as difficult as asking Americans to make sushi.
Japanese kitchens usually have small grills for fish, but they rarely come with large ovens that can slowly cook big cuts of meat. It’s a bit of a problem, honestly.
That said, your meat looks so perfectly cooked I can almost taste it just from the photo.

@AndSammiches you're a few short steps away from re-inventing beef burritos from first principles
English

@RectalAnarchy69 @WrathianReads @POTFES @CBMBTOUON I'm assuming the regolith is useful as a substrate but would need substantial initial processing and additives to transform it into soil, but past that would possibly require fewer consumables to maintain than hydroponics
English

@tryintothink @WrathianReads @POTFES @CBMBTOUON For fully fledged cities with industry that have been in mars for 20 years? Yeah you can go with soil farming. Before that though it's a weird idea when hydroponics and aeroponics exist

Why does no-one take sci-fi serious anymore.

Mars awaits. The season premiere of #ForAllMankind Season 5 is now streaming.
English

@RectalAnarchy69 @WrathianReads @POTFES @CBMBTOUON That said, the strongest argument I can think of for hydroponics is the pressurized volume required for each. Trading dome area for solar panel area.
English

@RectalAnarchy69 @WrathianReads @POTFES @CBMBTOUON The math on the tradeoffs is, to the best of my ability to determine, non-trivial. Every part of the hydroponic loop and the refineries associated with it are consumables. I believe you can get away with fewer consumables and less dramatic failure modes with soil-based farming.
English

@rkylesmith I'm going to be dumb or maybe just a jerk but I'm not sure that's entirely correct.
It's a play on words certainly - Hail Mary full of grace.
But if you're suggesting Grace as a Christ-figure it does have some problems. One being <spoiler> he has to be forced to do it.

@NodaWolf @supertrucker So like poorly balanced fans, or what? "Cooling infrastructure" isn't a monolith
English

@NodaWolf @supertrucker What part of the datacenter do you think is emitting sub-sonic sound waves?
English

@supertrucker Look up the effects that data center sub-sonic sound waves have on the human body.
English

@ModdedQuad Brain-data ownership is up there. I'd probably be ok with arbitrarily large capability so long as it remained read-only and within guardrails that I define. Gets real iffy real fast with write capabilities.

@BenjaminDa91346 I love you guys but this is why we invented the B-29
