@jaimestein Right outside a synagogue, people are tearing down posters of hostages—of real family members and loved ones. This is beyond horrific. The utter disrespect, right in front of a sacred place of worship is absolutely appalling.

The deliberate removal of hostage posters in our city isn't just vandalism – it's an assault on our shared humanity. These posters – hung outside a synagogue – represent innocent people torn from their families: children, elderly, and civilians.
Those who tear them down are complicit in erasing their stories and suffering.
This calculated cruelty has no place in our community. When we normalize such acts, we chip away at the very foundations of our civil society.
We must stand united against this callousness. This is not the Vancouver I know and love – we should be better than this.

@tslevi The prominent figures are going nuts over the war in a very biased manner (imo), especially wrt to the hospital explosion. They're free to have their beliefs and activism of course, but it doesn't instill a ton of confidence that they're unbiased arbiters of truth

If my entire career (and institute) was based on algorithmic bias in social media, I would probably not tweet out a bunch of stuff that could easily be false, and then keep defending it after it's been shown to be false

@bhsharp True! Race Across America riders usually have some sort of aero bar setup so they can use that bike position. Without it, they often get severe neck and back pain. And they are carrying bivy gear.

TIL I'm wrong about TT bikes and they are maybe great for extremely long distances?
Anyway, I still hope embedded Rust gains traction and firmware engineers all switch to it.
Both because then I could hire them but also because all the products in my life would have fewer bugs.

@bhsharp I have done a 500-mile non-stop "race" (I was more in it for finishing, took me 42 hours) with about 23k feet of climbing. The supported riders were all on TT bikes and the non-supported riders (including me) all had somewhat aero road bikes and clip-on aero bars.

Vancouver is notable because of its careful approach to the urban environment — which has long included view corridors and careful density. Once you lose those, they are gone forever. You can get density while protecting the connections to views/nature. Going higher (after 20 stories) is rarely better. Take a look at Paris — not Manhattan (which I lived in and love but is an aberration) Skyscraper canyons kill livability.
