@scary_monstrs I love Dead Cells. It’s all time indie for me. Despite it drawing elements from the metroidvania genre I personally wouldn’t throw it amongst these. As it’s a fast pace roguelike where you dash towards your goal. Whereas these want you to take time to explore.

That's cool. Anyways here's my top 50 metroidvanias as of right now. One of my favorite video game genres , and before anyone asks the lowest rated game on the list is an 8/10. Only three metroidvanias disappointed me and they didn't make the list. Love 'em all.

That's cool. Anyways here's my top 50 metroidvanias as of right now. One of my favorite video game genres , and before anyone asks the lowest rated game on the list is an 8/10. Only three metroidvanias disappointed me and they didn't make the list. Love 'em all.

@Anonymous7885 Carrion, Salt & Sacrifice, Afterimage. Carrion was okay, but not as great as some of my friends hyped it up to be. Salt and Sacrifice was messy, and to me Afterimage was kinda boring. Generic world that was uninteresting, and I dropped after five hours.
Pseudo is great though!

@dorier_n Mio is a 9/10. Excellent game. If I were just ranking the indie metroidvanias I’ve played then it would be higher.

@DatAmethystTho Nine Sols is a masterpiece so you’re off to a good start. The Blasphemous games are amazing and personally I really love Ender Lilies and Magnolia.

@typicalf001 Do you have recommendations for games that are similar in gameplay responsiveness to HK? I didn't enjoy Silksong and I've started Nine Sols but me and my friends are doing a "first time" rando and that was the game I chose so I haven't done it vanilla yet

@Exfr0w Yes it is. I’d go as far as to say it’s a much better game with refined design and systems. Story is the first is better in my opinion, but Magnolia is a worthy sequel. One of my top ten games of 2025.

@Un1d_ Honestly, yeah. I don’t think it’s bad and I respect what the team were trying to do. It’s just meshing metroidvanias, Dark Souls, and Monster Hunter led to really weird design choices, difficulty spikes, and repetition I didn’t really feel playing the first game.

@typicalf001 Was Salt & Sacrifice one of the games that disappointed you? It did didappoint me at launch, but I recently came back to it and found it much more enjoyable

@SilLoKust I really liked it. Some of its design choices are bad and boss fights aren’t fun to me. However, the world design and movement feel good. With a good amount of platforming challenges to test your skills and reflexes.

my favorite genre. could write an essay on any of these.
some day i want to pivot from making fighting games to making these, though i hold no delusions they'll be any good
