@Razza_7 100%. Needs some more seasoning, but he does the basics well IP + covers ground OOP.

@viahalfspace loses his composure a bit when it’s time to complete the last action but everything else has been pretty good to my eye

Despite Ghana’s disfunction, Yirenkyi has been impressive. Knows how to get on the ball & displays an understanding of technical empathy when on it. Love how committed he is when defending. Shuffles across really well to block passing lane & consistently closes down with intent.

@felixboehler03 like 5-6/10 with the potential to go up with another midfield acquisition? Incredible player but the fee is going to be inflated & his acquisition still leaves us with many of the same questions we have currently.

@viahalfspace How happy with the signing would you be? I think he’s mustard but understand the profile concerns

Tonali: - Proper big spaces player. Running power shows in his carrying, eats up ground IP & OOP - Duel monster - Struggles turning & receiving b2g - Passing is underrated. Can punch balls through or clip ott - Moments player in the final 3rd (ball-striking & delivery)

@pintappreciator yep, which decreases his functionality for me. The tactical value of having CBs like Senesi & JPVH who can break lines is severely discounted if the players on the end of those passes cannot take full advantage.

Mentally, he’s top. Understands how to read & manage space defensively, & he anticipates / interprets space well when otb. There are less situations where he’s comfortable otb than other CM targets (see him between CBs facing play often), but he is a highly effective 2nd CM

@TheOnlyRobmdk confused where I disagree with RDZ for pointing out noticeable flaws in a talented player, but you do you bro

@viahalfspace Yeah, I'd sooner take the opinion of RDZ, leading football experts and my own eyes. You're entitled to your opinion as wrong as you are.

and you’ve provided nothing of value to this conversation. Saying someone is “good” or “hasn’t been found out” means nothing. One, you have to quantify what makes someone "good". A player could exhibit traits that work for a lower level club but won't necessarily scale up to what the bigger clubs need. Or a player could be sheltered in the current system they play in Two, JPVH has made plenty of errors both on the ball & defensively, leading the league in errors leading to goal. There are plenty of ways in which he has been "found out"

@TheOnlyRobmdk settle down pal, I have no clue who you are nor did I ask for your opinion. You’ve quantified nothing there. He’s played well in the prem, yes, but he still has definitive strengths & weaknesses that will affect how he fits into certain tactical contexts. Not exactly a hot take.

@viahalfspace Almost as if you're not a scout then and don't know what you're talking about. Almost as if he's not played in the Premier League for the past 4 seasons and despite all the scouts, analysts and coaches he's still not been found out and been one of the highest performing CBs.

@TheOnlyRobmdk yes? Any half decent scout would be able to pick up on his lack of ability to change directions quickly & his burst is lackluster. Doesn’t mean he’s bad, just means he’s got weaknesses in his game. Good player ≠ good at everything!

@Noahvalerrio Unquestionably so. He’s a great player who slots into most midfields itw. That being said, I think it’s valid to question his fit given the makeup of our squad and the degree to which our midfielders overlap in profile.

I struggle to see the justification behind ~100m on Tonali. Has elite qualities (intensity, duel winner, ball striking) but ones already in the squad. Passing is better than marketed but it's when facing play. He struggles to play on the half-turn & is poor in smaller spaces.

#Tottenham are now trying to speed up a deal for Sandro Tonali. [@MatteMoretto] 🥇

@viahalfspace JPVH and sensi will be out deep playmakers. Our midfielders will be destroyers and carriers

@Salib_C4 Agreed man. 100m for a midfielder who is duplicitous in skill set & profile? Tonali is a good player but a bad use of the money, simple.

@viahalfspace It can be a good signing depending on the other midfielder we bring in, as a standalone signing it’s awful especially at that price point. The rice level price fee is meant to transform your team, I don’t think he does that

@BinAffleck Generally, I’m not a fan of big money moves necessitating further transfers. If you’re paying that level of fee, it shouldn’t bring more questions than it answers.
