@grantdesmidt Oh he definitely wasn’t. Defending from the middle of the pitch isn’t just about flying into the odd slide tackle.

@willd268 I'm not convinced Gerrard was even better defensively than Lampard. Frank was incredibly disciplined. He often used to basically man mark Fabregas. Against United, he was often the one doubling up with Cole on Ronaldo.

Frank’s the best all rounder of any of the midfielders in Carragher’s list. Don’t think there’s an argument. Others easier on the eye or more of a natural physical force but if you’re taking one of them for their whole career no contest I don’t think.

Defensively his discipline positionally always unnoticed. In midfield 3 he covered every blade of grass and later on in a midfield 2 when we suffered more without the ball 2012 and then under Benitez, he was fantastic infront of the back four and still found goals in midfield 2.

Gerrard’s best period was in and around Torres with freedom to basically go wherever he pleased in possession and he was unbelievable.

Ruud Gullit striding out at a packed Priestfield Stadium for his first game in a Chelsea shirt in 1995 was one of the more unexpected sights in English football. Chelsea’s managing director, Colin Hutchinson, masterminded Gullit’s arrival and helped transform Chelsea... #CFC 1/2

Few players could conjure up a cross as Trent Alexander-Arnold did for Kylian Mbappe against Bayern in the Bernabeu. Few could see the perfect place to put the ball for Mbappe let alone execute the pass. Alexander-Arnold could. Vision and technique. Other countries would celebrate such a talent. He’s won the Premier League and Champions League with Liverpool. He now starts for Real Madrid. Yet can’t make a 36-man England squad for a couple of friendlies. Neither of which England won. Alexander-Arnold did show why the watching Thomas Tuchel has concerns about him defensively. Few expect England’s head coach to pick him in his World Cup 26. Reece James, fitness permitting, and probably Tino Livramento are Tuchel’s right-back picks. But Alexander-Arnold showed the huge reward that goes with occasional risk. His dead-ball delivery and crossing are world class. Can Tuchel really leave such a game-changing talent behind? He probably will. And there will be crunch moments in the knockout stages, late on in tight games against far more testing opposition than England swanned past in qualifying, perhaps even in a penalty shootout, when England will regret not having Alexander-Arnold's right foot to kick-start their recovery. His club-mate, Jude Bellingham, showed at the Bernabeu why he has to start at 10 for England at the World Cup. Big-game player, came on and brought more menace to Real. His strong personality, technical and physical qualities are needed in pressure situations. Tuchel has exceptional options at 10, and Morgan Rogers is a Tuchel favourite, but Bellingham is world class. He has to start. #ENG #RMCF #RMABAY

@Statford_Bridge Terrific player. Such a shame he didn’t hang around for another season. Could have been great under Conte.

Or Estevao. Who will play left, right, centrally, will track FB's into his box, stay high for transitions, and graft. How do you win when it's the 18 year old giving up some of himself? I don't know if you can. I don't think you can.

Briefly recorded an Oscar retires pod, didn't like it, so you get a thread instead. Oscar is one of my favourite Chelsea players of all time, I've always had a weird sweet spot for players who give up something of themselves for the team to achieve something. That was him.
