@tngeogalliance Just a quick question: are you sure the contact email on that page is current? I tried emailing that address and my message bounced. Thanks!

@swordsjew Yes, but the actual title means a person. And the lyrics has "korobushka", not "korobochka", a slightly more endearing version I think. Native speaker here.

@AlbinatorB korobochka is a little box, a korobeinik is someone who carries little boxes, the song is about both

@swordsjew I thought "korobeiniki" meant "vendors who carry their wares around in small display boxes"? Initial verse has him ask to lessen the load on his shoulders by making a purchase.

the song, korobeiniki, means "little boxes," so it fits. the boxes are a pretty straightforward metaphor for fucking in a rye field

@TheRealHoarse Restrictive internet policies appeal to people, because the alternative is to talk to your kids, often and at length, about what they are watching and following. This is a lot of work, and some find it hard to believe there's no shortcut.

It’s been such a Twittery weekend. I’ve had people proudly defending parents using the literal communications rules of a supermax prison and others suggesting kids should randomly wander the streets after school looking for their parents’ car. Twitter is just so… Twitter.

@ElijahSchaffer Curious to learn your definition of modest. It's very form fitting, slit is up pretty high, deep neckline - would be inadvisable for a female tourist in a Muslim country, for example. And honestly that hat by itself is enough to turn heads.

Modest clothing yet every guy looks. Is there something attractive to being classy that society has lost?

@findgodtakecare @mattyglesias It might be, but doesn't make it inaccurate. When you exist in a sexist society and get used to being blamed for any undue risk taken by men or children in your life, by middle age that's what you are, and what I am, down to freaking bandaids in my purse.

Is it woke or anti-woke to observe that women take fewer risks than men so it would probably be better to demand more more DEI in bank boards and executive teams not less? Male skew of finance seems bad!

@swordsjew @Juan58729 More importantly, historical inevitability is cold comfort for people victimized by this right now. If anyone can be helped by us not being complacent now, it's worth saying and doing.

I find the most difficult part of far right research & writing is not finding out their nefarious plans, but rather convincing people that the nefarious plans they state clearly and often are both real and in progress right now

@jowanabueser She's so cool and, for lack of better words, regal. I liked "everything everywhere all at once" a lot, and it worked for me in all ways but one: I could not buy Michelle Yeoh as frumpy in one of her multiverse avatars. Just, no. She's still Michelle Yeoh.

I'm not saying that anyone else should invade Russia from the east or south while their entire army is in Ukraine. I'm just saying that the map looks like this at the moment.

The British estimate that an astonishing 97% of the entire Russian army is in Ukraine now as Moscow seeks to turn the tide of a war that it is losing nearly a year in. ⁦@IsabelColes⁩ ⁦@davidluhnowwsj.com/articles/russi…

@AdinOfCrimea @igorsushko This will only shut off ordinary people. Anyone who is anywhere close to power and all their relatives have other citizenships in addition to Russian and will travel as they did before. So max inconvenience for people who can do nothing, zero impact on decision makers.

Have you ever noticed that the save icon is a floppy disk, even though they became obsolete twenty years ago? That's called a "skeuomorph" - when something new takes on the appearance of what it replaced. And once you start to look, they're everywhere...

@goldnecklace2 @bessbell It is likely safer by a sizeable measure to keep you awake. Full anesthesia is quite risky by itself, no need to layer that onto another procedure without good reason. Besides, you could hold the baby right away.

@juliewrites This is a sentiment that somehow makes women responsible for everything, and then makes it their fault that the world is not fixed. Don't do this. Men have agency, and should use it responsibly. If they don't, it's on them.
