Yesterday, I texted our gateman to come and collect his Easter rice. I told him to come with his plate because I had run out of takeaway packs. He replied, “Don’t worry ma.” I was a bit surprised because this is something I always do during festive periods. The only difference this time was the plate. I didn’t think much of it… Until my neighbour called me later and said the gateman reported me. He said I disrespected him, how can I ask a married man to bring a plate like a beggar just to collect food? I’m honestly still in shock. It was never that deep for me… I was just trying to share what I had. But I guess sometimes, what feels like kindness to one person… can feel like disrespect to another. Did I actually do something wrong?

This video made me took me back in days, this was exactly how our house was when we packed in 2010. My mom was tired of worrying about rent and i remember one day after school, instead of going back to the rented apartment she took us to our house. This was exactly how it looked, we had rug at the sitting room to make it look fancy. I remember the day she bought tiles, I was so happy, we had to pack our things outside for the tillers to work. Little by little, from tiles to painting to extra toilets, pumping machine, fence. In that same house, she bought a car, she trained all of us in good schools. My brother is a computer engineer, I'm a nurse, our last born is in his final year at the university. My mother, what a woman! I've not seen someone as resilient as that woman. Kai kai God bless you abundantly, I'm going to spoil you silly. I'm already doing the little I can but I want to do more. She deserves the best. Truly, I don't look like what I've been through.
