If you do something even highly imperfectly bt consistently you will by default become above average in it. :)

@kirat_tw for learning VS code. for real dev for sure antigravity/cursor, enjoy geting more time to think, bt at the same time miss the art of writing code slowly.

Curious how has coding changed for you in the last ~1 year. Is anyone using VSCode anymore? Cursor? Claude code? How much of your day is spent coding vs prompting. What do you do when the AI is coding? Do you parallelly start multiple tasks? Are you more productive?

@naval it "was" eaten, its going to vomit it out to human SWE's again. Else it would be series of fucking outages all across tech. smart SWEs still gonna win no matter whatever comes

In india why most of the people are frustated after/during work is because we have been raised so much with the thought that we need a JOB. And along the way we loose all our hobbies and thus we end without having mental outlet when things go wrong/frustating.

@IndianTechGuide it doesnt matter on which number we come on, what matters is what percentage of population these matro network is able to server, if you compare that we are way way behind in the world :) These are all just bluff

It's time that we get back to development using our own hands and learn DSA as well, because soon, major companies are going to restrict the AI-generated code from going into production blindly. We have been noticing outages in alot of big tech, which we haven't seen at this frequency earlier.

@arpit_bhayani Its a loop actually; to give better context -> one should have good understanding of the repo -> to understand repo, you need good hands on coding experience -> to get good coding experience you need to code most people lag at understanding the flow itself.

One of the easiest ways to tell whether the context you gave your agent is actually good enough is to look at the "apology" metric. If your AI agent keeps saying things like "sorry" or "you're absolutely right," that is an indication that the context can be improved. When an agent apologizes repeatedly on the same task, the problem is usually not the model - it is the context. Again, I said usually. Very likely, the problem would be solved by passing a better context rather than switching to a more expensive model. So when you are deploying agents, instrument them - i.e., capture the responses and build a simple apology counter :) alongside your usual correctness metrics. Some keywords and phrases to watch for are "sorry," "my mistake," or "you're absolutely right." Depending on your use case, the root cause could be unclear documentation, an ambiguous API description, instructions that do not cover an edge case, or even a retrieval that is not bringing in the right context. These are all things that can be improved once you know where to look. In a gist, track apologies as a metric and use them to debug your agent. It is simple, but it works.

@striver_79 I genuinely miss the time when I used to sit, scroll n read docs, to create a beautiful piece of code. It felt like art, bt now its just AI slop all around. I think the kind of innovation were able to do (just by reading docs) might reduce if we are too focused on AI slop.

Few of my friends work in fintech, where AI is heavily used. - Code is written much faster now. - PRs are generated quickly. But reviews still take time. In many industries today, approvals have become quick “LGTM” because the number of pull requests has exploded. Fintech doesn’t work that way. One bad change can trigger a Sev-1, and in fintech, we all know how severe that is. Amazon had multiple Sev-1s in the last few days and held a priority meeting to discuss how AI is creating them. I feel bigger companies will be more cautious going forward, while startups will go bonkers - but the real challenge will be maintaining user trust. Interesting times.

If you think you're mentally strong, look carefully if you are just suppressing your thoughts or actually understanding them. It is mastery through understanding. Like training a powerful horse: -If you whip it, it rebels. -If you understand it, it obeys. Your mind is that horse

@_jaydeepkarale + and even tho the indexes are stored in persistant storage, bt the frequently accessed once are loaded in to database cache, indexes all of them might make this caching useless and hence indexing.

@_jaydeepkarale indexing has CPU cost, your indexes might grow very large. also 1 insert/delete = number of colums, so if you have total 7 columns, then 1 insert ops will lead to 7 insertion, and insertion in indexed column is costly.
