I did SAR for 8 years. C-130 and HH-60W, doing daylight CSAR at medium altitude in an area where the airspace is known to be contested, is pretty wild.
I don't know what kind of daylight extraction they think they're going to do in that barren, desert region.

@TheKeplarHermit There’s been time for the US to take out whatever took the F15 down, if that is the case. Iran would have shown their cards to take it down which in turn we could take out whatever they used

The fact we are able to do this in daylight, suggests to me that if a F-15 did go down over Iran, it was likely due to a mechanical failure because of age and not Iranian AD but we will see soon.

BREAKING: At least one A-10C+ Thunderbolt II ground attack aircraft has been deployed over Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province in Iran to provide top cover for the combat search and rescue team searching for the downed crew of the U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle of the 494th Fighter Squadron, which was shot down by Iranian air defense forces in the same region.
The A-10C+ can be seen operating over the area.

This is completely incorrect. Flares are not used for search and rescue. They’re used to evade enemy missiles by masking their heat signature. And you wouldn’t fly a transport plane into enemy territory for a search and rescue. You’d use a helicopter.
