@thebankzhar spoon fed me GBFH a few years ago at $8. I didn’t have time to do the work and passed. A year later @thebankzhar practically forced me to a dinner with GBFH’s founder, Ed Nigro (the best of the best), and that meeting compelled me to take a closer look. My first reaction? Like @Aureliusltd28, I thought the patents looked (1) too good to be true and (2) flimsy at best. The bank’s upside potential, combined with Ed, made it worth the investment, so I hired an expensive top-tier IP attorney. Ed, true to form, was happy to put his attorneys, some of the best in the country, through their paces. I pre-gamed with my attorney, and as I suspected, he said that the patents appeared weak. BCS’s lead attorney introduced himself, a former senior examiner with the USPTO, whom I then watched maul my guy, as he walked us through the patent’s key provisions. A key takeaway is that the IP has nothing to do with business methods and the sort. Rather BCS has simply and brilliantly patented an account architecture. If a business transacts with thousands or millions of customers, and the goal is for the consumers’ funds to be FDIC insured throughout that relationship, this is pretty much the only game in town. I asked their attorney if, for example, BCS’ solution definitively solves [this problem](consumerfinance.gov/about-us/newsr…)? He said yes, and my attorney, doing a full 180, concurred.
