#Kerala : 10-month-old becomes Kerala’s youngest #organdonor, gives new life to five In an extraordinary act of courage amid unimaginable grief, the parents of 10-month-old #AlinSherinAbraham have chosen to donate her organs after she was declared brain dead following a tragic road accident. With this noble decision, Alin becomes the #youngestorgandonor in Kerala, offering a second chance at life to five people, including two critically ill infants. Alin, a native of Mallappally in #Pathanamthitta district, sustained severe injuries in a road accident on February 5 around 2.30 pm. The mishap occurred near Pallam Borma Kavala junction on the MC Road while the family was travelling from Kottayam to Thiruvalla. A car coming from the opposite direction rammed into their vehicle. Alin was critically injured, while her mother and maternal grandparents also suffered serious injuries. She was first rushed to hospitals in Changanassery and Thiruvalla. As her condition remained critical, she was shifted to Amrita Hospital in Kochi on February 7 for advanced treatment. Despite relentless medical efforts, the infant was declared brain dead on February 13. In the midst of their profound sorrow, her parents, Arun Abraham and Sherin Ann John, took the brave decision to donate their daughter’s organs so that others might live. “We express our heartfelt gratitude to the parents for taking such a selfless decision even in extreme grief. We share the pain of the family,” said a statement issued by KSOTTO (Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation). Alin’s organs will now save and transform five lives. Her two kidneys will be transplanted into a 10-year-old child undergoing treatment at the SAT Hospital, Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram. Her liver will be given to a six-month-old baby receiving care at KIMS Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram — making the infant the youngest liver recipient through posthumous organ donation in the state. Her heart valve will benefit a patient at Sree Chitra Institute in Thiruvananthapuram, while her two eyeballs will restore sight through procedures at Amrita Hospital. Health Minister Veena George expressed deep appreciation for the family’s decision. She lauded their strength in choosing to save lives in the face of devastating loss and conveyed her solidarity with them during this difficult time. The organs were transported from Amrita Hospital in Ernakulam to various medical centres in Thiruvananthapuram under the coordination of KSOTTO, with support from the Home Department to ensure swift transfer.
