What you're fundamentally missing, is that systems would only see it fit to cater to a specific player, IF they benefit from it, and you only really see real benefits, once you create a system around the best player.

Why did Neymar never achieve the same numbers at PSG? Why would Barca play around Messi, instead of Neymar, if Neymar was comparably good, if not better?

@Itz_Weastyy Then the semis go to Ronaldo mainly because of the easier conditions he played in, Messi (unsurprisingly) was involved in more of his team's goals. Not to mention, that a lot of Ronaldo's semi goals are either indecisive, penalties or off-side goals.

The act of touching the ball more does not necessarily by nature and in absolute terms, have to lead to a bigger accumulation in stats, at least not when you're only looking at total touches with zero context for anything.

It's merely the way he plays, minimal involvement, but a lot of impact, doesn't mean better.
