New mitigation tool in place for North Atlantic Right Whales, if they are sighted consistently for 15 days in the same grid cells, the area will be closed until the end of the season.

Results of last year's humpback whale season: Record year! 129 individuals, 108 known, 21 new ones. 14 calves, not all IDed. Many first time cows, including Hockey (pic) with first 4th generation calf. Again some animals from the Gulf of Main. @BaleineMagazine @AShields_Devoir

Blue whales do move around!

Blue whale roams the ocean. The #NARW flight crew of @NOAAFish_NEFSC identified 2 blue whales on Oct. 13th, 2019 in the southern Gulf of St Lawrence, one of them, B353. It was re-sighted off Georges Bank (Gilbert Canyon) on Feb. 9th, 2020 by the @NEAQ @CenterOceanLife flight crew

#Finwhale news after 3/4 of season. Many animals, but widely dispersed over the Gulf from Miscou over Gaspe, the Estuary, Sept-Iles and off Anticosti. With 6 cow and calf pairs, an average year. Some very regular ones like #CurlyMICS #RamsesMICS #StratumMICS @MICScanada

While @MICScanada is studying the entanglement rate in rorqual whales, we shoot sometimes some nice interactions, here with Dune (F252) and her calf and a male escort (F175). Starts to be a bit late for calves, they are usually weaned by now. @BaleineMagazine

Un collaborateur du @MICScanada, René Roy, a photographié récemment cette rarissime tortue luth, au large de Cap-des-Rosiers. L'espèce, en voie de disparition, est la plus grosse tortue au monde (plus de 900 livres) et elle évolue depuis plus de 100 millions d'années.

Third right whale sighting, same guys as 2 weeks ago. In the mandatory traffic separation scheme!!! Their main food is often found in the deep channels, which is also used for shipping. At least 4 died due to ship strikes this year alone.
