@MatoacaMrsS Thank you for your kind words. I am blessed to have a job I love so much, and am passionate about. I know everyone isn't a math nut like I am. I am here anytime you need me.
@MatoacaMath Katelyn you have made it easier by guiding us through the process. You have offered great tools and always have something encouraging to say.
A2: Around our school I hear much more math talk, more Sts sharing their thinking, new number sense routines used, and many engaged sts. I commend this group of teachers for taking risks and shifting mindsets! #MAESmath
@MatoacaMath Bahaha. . .Well, sometimes I just get wild and crazy. :) Seriously though, I do like to try to challenge myself and my students a bit. They're pretty amazing. Remind me to show you one of our spontaneous number talks. Their thinking was really upper level.
@MatoacaMath Yes, I'm thinking about spending time this summer to find and create some games to go with each big unit. This year is dedicated to learn the content. Next year, we will play!
@Kshultz5 I can speak to the upper grades bc that's where I am most of the time. K and 1 are typically the most comfortable with guided math and stations bc of Kathy Richardson and also the age group in general. You aren't going to lecture for 30 mins and give worksheets to young sts.
Q1 Because it addressess multiple levels of learning. It can be implemented slowly (as suggested) and students can meet success where they are #MAESmath
It truly has been my pleasure to lead this Twitter chat! You all are amazing for reading this book and implementing these new strategies into your classroom! I’m so lucky to work with all of you. #MAESmath
A4- TRY- That is what we ask of our kids. I know as an educator, I felt compelled to be a “4” in everything. With this, I’m taking one step at a time. It’s going to be a rewarding journey for me, but most importantly, the kids #MAESmath
A4 Take a minute and go back to your first twitter posts about MW and how math looks in your room. Wow! Don't stop believing! We've come so far! #MAESmath
@MatoacaMath We should meet - on a voluntary basis - to exchange learning stations ideas. I am sure upper grades can share with each other stuff that would be good for 3rd, 4th and 5th.
A3: Next school we can refine our MW practices by starting with the mini lessons, and setting up a successful math workshop from the start of the year. I'd also like our school to focus on various number sense routines in PLCs. #MAESmath
Q3. I need to work learning stations. The students are given some choices. I need to structure it- for me! I’m elated at this point when I hear them say “Math is over already?” #MAESmath
A3. I just need to realized that it can’t happen over night. We need to go slow, one step at a time!! Reflect then keep going. Make one change at a time! #MAESmath
A2-Pulling small groups to work on a particular skill helps me to address my Ss needs and the Ss who don’t usually participate whole group are participating #MAESmath
Q2 The students are becoming more familiar with the routine .They are gradually learning to transition from one block to another. They are able to work better independently. #MAESmath
