Tonight, I’m thinking about Justice Murray Sinclair and of the times that I was lucky enough to hear him speak about his work with the TRC. This moment stands out for me. It’s his answer when he was asked, “Why can’t you just get over it?”

To honour the passing of Murray Sinclair, I’ve put an orange shirt in my window - and I’m inviting others to do the same across the country. We owe him, and the residential school survivors he supported, a great deal for helping to put us on the path of truth and reconciliation.

"The First Nations Leadership Council is extremely concerned that B.C. Conservative Leader John Rustad has stated his intent to repeal the UN Declaration if elected in the upcoming provincial election." UNDRIP is the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People. It provides a framework for reconciliation, healing and peace, as well as harmonious and cooperative relations based on the principles of justice, democracy, respect for human rights, non-discrimination and good faith. This is a framework that has given reconciliation and Indigenous people, as well as allies, hope that our governments have actual intention to move forward together in collaboration and healing. I am so proud that our BC NDP government adopted UNDRIP by bringing in the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act. A vote for John Rustad's Conservatives is very clearly a vote against a framework of reconciliation and healing together. This attempt to segregate the Indigenous voters from the rest of the province is unacceptable and dangerous. This is a strategy that we've seen before, and it was in a time period that we do not wish to return to. This is a risk we can not afford. This hurts people, not helps them.

@Songstress28 No shit, quitting cigarettes is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done but so worth it! My daughter, aged 4, begged me to not die from smoking and so I promised I would quit. If I was ever going to have any credibility with that radiant child, I knew I had to do it.

Anyone who’s read my book Our Voice of Fire knows of the close relationship I have with my beloved dad. Well, I haven’t seen him in a couple months as he’s been away working and when he was in town I was away. So I learned he quit smoking after over 50 years of smoking two months ago! I NEVER in my life thought my dad would quit smoking! This is incredibly inspirational and I’m freakin proud of him! He was coughing uncontrollably for a long time and said he had enough- so he did it! The addiction had a hold on him for over half a century and he just kicked it to the curb. If he can, anyone can!!! xoxo
