@cor_marine there's definitely a political aspect to this but like i don't think my min-speaking grandparents would at any point think they weren't speaking "chinese" lol. some of the "which chinese" takes (even if woke) are really failing to get how we actually roll here

not really... speakers of regional chinese languages will almost ALWAYS refer to their own variety as "the chinese language” except when contrasting it with mandarin
