Today after Mass, the announcer appealed to everyone to stay back because the church wants to support the children of one of our late members through donations. Young children in their teenage years. The church has been making this announcement for 2 Sundays before today. As usual, some will stay and others will go but this particular family struck me. They didn't bother to stay for a second. This family always shy away from donations like this and the talks have been making the rounds in the church. Meanwhile, everyone turns out for them during their yearly wedding anniversary celebration. I do not think a N1,000 donation would drain their finances. The church should be a place where we support each other. You do for me, I do for you.

Peace is the ultimate form of preservation. What is the family preserving? The children? The family business? A family held together by tension often leaves deeper scars than a family that transitions into a different, more peaceful structure. What if one of the partners is being assaulted, would you still advise them to 'hold it together'? Kids can be co-parents. Family business can be co-run. But scars gotten from a torn family can not be 'co-shared'. I will choose Peace, every day.
