Well if you’re talking about just experiencing less than great media to make the great stand out, the bad or flawed but still entertaining stories are definitely better than boring ones for me, or ones outside of your comfort zone, or with great ideas but poor execution that are most exciting, etc. Less than good media is valuable for sure but it need not be boring
It’s funny, years ago I used to think “it’s boring” wasn’t a very valid criticism and/or complaint but these days I think it’s one of the most valid out there. Time is valuable man, you gotta spend it with stuff that stimulates you.
In a world without Chainsaw Man, the Nazis would not have been eradicated and the Soviet Union would have dissolved by 1991, so Reze would be a normal girl in this universe. I'm glad for that.
@SundownSoc@tableofenoch@MakiScaler seconding this. I think "depth = good" is specifically valid if you're just approaching a story from a scaling perspective, but it's not a rule of thumb for writing quality
@tableofenoch@MakiScaler Soft Magic system and Hard Magic to each have their own narrative function not that one is better than other.
But yeah, for Battle Manga if you going to indulges to battle analysis sure, the more depth might work better.
