What makes the anti-external regime change arguments a “truism” is that no one bother to contrast the outcome of these wars with popular revolutions, which have for the most part gone even worse.

The next decade of discourse on this is going to be all the people in charge of the military options saying they could've gotten it done, and negotiators in charge of the diplomatic options saying they could've gotten it done. None of them were ever going to deliver.
Dr. Jeffrey Lewis@ArmsControlWonk

Experts who supported what became the JCPOA did so overwhelmingly because we did not wish to see Iran acquire a nuclear weapon, something that now seems certain if the regime survives. He's ignored these arguments for two decades, no surprise he still ignores them.

The reason so many shows are set in the 80s and 90s is cellphones make like 50% of plots obsolete. Contact anyone at any time, find almost any piece of knowledge, it's very difficult to get lost. Same reason Star Trek has "oh, communications are blocked" every 2nd episode.

@JamesSurowiecki @DeanBaker13 Strange argument. Sanctions over the nuclear program started in 06. Obama personally signed off on Nitro Zeus and carried it out. The JCPOA (which doves love to talk about being effective!) was a whole thing. Israel keeps assassinating their nuclear scientists. Etc.

If every president since Clinton has gotten the same intelligence briefing that Iran was on the verge of acquiring nukes, and yet it still hasn't acquired nukes, that suggests our intelligence on Iran has not been very good.

As much as I enjoy Marathon, it is not a good sign that the community is constantly discussing what Bungie needs to do in order to retain the not-great-not-terrible playerbase it has managed to attract. Like, that's not our job!
Timothy Mark!@Timothy_Mark7

people should not excuse that this should be for the top 5% or stay as strong because theres entire fully kitted teams wrecking entire lobbies in perimeter with this gun and it's going to further alienate and drive new and low end players away from wanting to stick with the game

@agraybee This line of argument is crazy to me because like, what if your opponent could verify this? That would suddenly make all of Israel's land claims and use of violence legitimate? Palestinians would have to just go "oh gee I guess we really do gotta go!" Stupid.

Nominal translunar injection burn complete. The Artemis II crew is officially on the way to the Moon. America is back in the business of sending astronauts to the Moon. This time, farther than ever before.

@hecubian_devil Tbh I don't think any of us are actually that serious about winning elections at this point. The GOP is going to get absolutely shellacked in November and they don't seem to care too much.
