At an aquarium in Japan, after closing time, some clever little otter pups help their grandpa tidy up their toys. As a reward, he gives them ice cubes

As someone who just signed up for Hardcore yesterday, I'm having a good time exploring all of the tools. I believe that I understand the dashboard fairly well, yet I'm not sure how the ranking number is determined. I doesn't seemed to be tied to the forecast. Is it position within the channel?

My single biggest complaint about our 250th birthday as a nation is aimed directly at Winchester. In 1976, my dad bought me the commemorative Winchester Bicentennial 30-30, the “rifle that won the West.” It’s still mint in box, although the box is a bit worn. For two decades, I’ve looked forward to buying the commemorative 250th 30-30 for each of my children. They didn’t make one. What a disappointment @WinRepArms.

Prison doesn't seem to work. It's good for isolating the antisocial element from society, but there's just too many of them now, and it's not a powerful enough deterrent. I think we should bring back corporal punishment in place of prison. Shoplifting? First time; five lashes. Second time; ten. Third time; we cut off one of your hands.
Covfefe Anon@CovfefeAnon

Prison itself is a failed experiment from the real Woke 1.0 - 18th century Quakerism which should finally be acknowledged as having utterly failed in every way Prison should be abolished...

@FischerKing64 I guess *theoretically* there could have been black applicants who had not completed high school that would pass the IQ test. In some alternate universe.

An overlooked fact in Griggs v. Duke Power is that just having a high school diploma was enough to get the job promotions in question. The IQ tests were a way for applicants without high school diplomas to qualify. SCOTUS outlawed use of a test that could have identified qualified black applicants who had not completed high school.
Auron MacIntyre@AuronMacintyre

Because it’s literally illegal IQ tests kept showing racial disparities So they made IQ a forbidden employment metric Griggs V Duke Power, disparate impact

@DrInsensitive Could also be that Law Enforcement want the rifling for the bullet signature. Not sure how it would work with smooth bore, but I imagine the would make a positive ID more difficult. Random thought...

The Rifling in Your Pistol Barrel is Retarded And so is the reason it exists. We all know rifling improves a weapon's accuracy by gyroscopically stabilizing the bullet. That advantage becomes measurable at 50 yards, and important at 100 yards. Do you see the problem? If you expect to hit targets at 100 yards with a 3-inch barrel, then you have either a great deal of pistol experience, or very little. Some men are thinking, "My hollowpoint won't expand if it tumbles!" I'm pretty sure no women are thinking that. Setting aside the question of whether tumbling is good or bad, a smoothbore pistol bullet won't start to tumble until beyond 25 yards. Do you expect to fire your concealed carry pistol at a target 25 yards distant? At this point, some men will spring into action to point out that the chance is not EXACTLY zero. There was that one time a guy made a miraculous 40-yard shot! What if his bullet had tumbled? Then the hollowpoints might not have expanded! IMO, rifling the barrel of a self-defense weapon is absurd. It adds expense, it adds weight, it wastes bullet energy, and it heats up the barrel for no good reason. Why then are pistol barrels rifled? When the free market does something stupid for more than a year or two, you can bet it's not the free market. Yeah, it's the NFA. Under the National Firearms Act, a smoothbore pistol counts as "Any other weapon," which, among other requirements, must be at least 26 inches long. So the next time you fondle your carry pistol, which you should do on a regular basis, take a moment to reflect that your government did to it what it does to everything it touches.

Bug for you. I asked Grok Build to update it's model from "reasoning" to the best that I had access to. It updated to 4.20 multi-agent and then crashed with every request, saying that the API wasn't compatible with multi-agent. I was able to revert it after doing some sleuthing, but otherwise it was bricked.

@TheAliceSmith Or just let Africa produce those epic works. Surely they have talented producers, artists, historians and technologists. Let Hollywood focus on the heritage that founded Manifest Destiny.

I don’t know, but I assume that a continent as vast as Africa must be rich with stories of its own heroes and their epic adventures. Why can’t Hollywood show us those instead of blackwashing ours? Wouldn’t that show more respect to Africa as well as us?

@ChiefEngineerCE @CarlHPetersonIV I think that the threshold should be some extraordinarily high total compensation for the job. If the job pays >$1M then you know that the company is actually doing a global search for a rare, high talent individual.

I think that Silicon Valley could make a compelling case for an effective O-1 visa program (not so much H1B) Effectively, “America must attract and utilize the best talent from around the world,” and then actually only select the best talent But half of my family has been in this country since the 1680’s and calling me, my parents, grandparents, or the many generations between me and the first of my progenitors to set foot on American soil entitled children who did nothing to earn their citizenship is a surefire way to lose my support My ancestors built this country, they bled for this country, and everything good about this country has its roots in the founders, their ideals, and the institutions that they started, And yes, their children are as much a part of that goodness as are our courts and capital markets
Nick Davidov@Nick_Davidov

@patriotEng1neer @PeachesMcGee22 @Carmen50 What’s a heritage American? A child of someone who was an immigrant some time ago? Oh, I forgot an important detail. An entitled child of immigrants who did nothing to earn their citizenship just was born with a silver spoon

@PeptideProSrc How many of those other benefits are just due to weight loss? If someone lost weight via traditional methods, wouldn't he also have improved sleep, less cancer progression, etc, etc.

GLP-1s so far: Kills food noise. Cuts heart disease risk. Fixes sleep apnea. Protects kidneys. Reduces addiction. Now: potentially slows cancer progression by up to 50%. Cleveland Clinic is presenting data at the largest cancer conference in the world showing they may cut cancer progression by 38-50% across multiple tumor types. They tracked 10,000+ cancer patients and found GLP-1 users had dramatically lower tumor progression across breast, lung, colon and liver cancer. The data is still early here but the effects outside of weight loss are starting to add up and pretty amazing.

@theoliverxp I realized that about 15 years ago when you used to be able to have a discussion at a bar that lasted for an hour, but when Google and iPhones came out they could just come up with the answer. RIP spirited arguments.

When I was a kid, I heard this song called "Kokomo" by the Beach Boys. You might have heard of it. The Beach Boys sing that there's this island off of the Florida Keys called Kokomo and it's dreamy and filled with romance and leisure. When the song was written, and when I heard it in the early 90s, you probably wouldn't know if Kokomo was a real place or not. Maybe if you were really into geography or you went to the library and you looked it up in a reference book. Today you ask Siri if it was real and then you would go on with your life like the question never existed. I am starting to think the ability to learn any fact you want has been a net loss in human civilization and even more devastating, for the human mind.
