@JochenBittner Mir kommen die Tränen. Das Getue über fehlendes burden sharing ist angesichts weitgehend nörgelfreien Hinnehmens amerikanischer Planlosigkeit in Afghanistan und Irak auch einfach falsch.

Graham ist ein ausgewiesener Nato- und Europafreund. Man muss ihn nicht für einen Repräsentanten der Mitte halten. Aber vielen Europäern, einschließlich dem Bundeskanzler, ist offenbar nicht klar, wie tief die Enttäuschung über den jahrzehntelangen Mangel an Burden Sharing bei vielen Amerikanern ohnehin schon saß — und was gerade auf dem Spiel steht.

Here's the debate to be having: Yes, Israel/US clearly have done serious damage to Iran's security establishment and have largely removed much of the threat it represents. That's good. BUT: all Iranian mil capabilities can be reconstituted. What is the value of short term damage if it makes no difference in the long term? I think both sides can be argued; it's not a clear black and white thing.

@Alejandro_SocEU There's nothing unfair about a two state solution. Israel has a right to exists just like the Palestinian people have a right to peaceful self determination. It's also a lot more stable than the one state solution.

@StrBene My position is simple: The most feasible solution—good, but at the same time unfair—is a two-state solution. The historically just and desirable solution, but impossible, is a single binational state with equal rights.

I don’t understand a certain type of figure within the European reformist left. Young people who are practically anti-left, who treat any critical stance toward Israel as something “extreme,” and who even propose cordons sanitaires against democratic parties simply for declaring themselves anti-Zionist or for criticizing Zionism. If that is your political position, honestly: why be in the social-democratic left? For that, there are already liberals, the centre-right, or even conservative parties. And if none of those convince you, you can always build something of your own. What is difficult to understand is joining parties that have historically been a motor of social transformation, only to then try to empty them of their political substance. And then people wonder why parties like the SPD are now at historic lows in some places (5–6% in Baden-Württemberg, around 14-15% nationally). Maybe that has something to do with it. Because if declaring anti-Zionism, or even arguing that Zionism can involve racial or colonial dynamics, is treated as an extreme threat that justifies cordons sanitaires against democratic and ideologically related forces like Die Linke… then the problem is not with those of us who defend these positions. So I honestly wonder what they must think of their Spanish socialist counterparts. Many of us — myself included — are deeply pro-Palestinian across the party, especially in the youth organizations, where there are many currents openly discussing ideas such as a one-state solution. I suppose that, to them, we must look like outright antisemites and little less than a public danger 🤷‍♂️

@Alejandro_SocEU That's all rather beside the point. Even if it were true, which as a matter of history your presentstion is faulty at best. They, for the lack of a better word, lost. So they better negotiate the future. Which will be easier because the Netanyahu government is inept at int. PR.

Fatah already recognized Israel, and even Hamas terrorists issued a statement saying they were willing to accept a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders alongside other Arab states around 2023–24. So if we haven’t reached a two-state solution, it’s because the State of Israel and its population, which is absolutely radicalized and indoctrinated, do not want it.

@Alejandro_SocEU That's just factually wrong. Womens rights, labor rights, individual freedom and the rule of law generally? There's no comparison at all. Can you have a pride parade in Riad? I know quite a few on the left think that's frivolous but I think it's rather not

@StrBene Israel is much closer to, and moving in the direction of, what Saudi Arabia is than what Palestine would be under a Fatah government if they released its most influential leader, who is being held by Israel. That historical excuse is a lie and no longer holds.

@Alejandro_SocEU 3. An internal economic development plan akin to the Marshall Plan that also entails funds for a good secular education system to get rid of the islamism. 4. Complete removal of radical islamists from power structures.
