Texas A&M Spring Game Thoughts: -Program-record 13 players were invited to the NFL Combine. -Really like Mike Elko. Program is very competent in schemes and scouting. -Very physical scrimmage. -Not a Marcel Reed guy. Just too inconsistent and turnover prone. He's going to have to significantly improve for A&M to get back to the playoffs. Keep an eye on backup Brady Hart. -RB Jamarion Morrow doesn't have the fanfare of Rueben Owens but he looked very good. -The WR unit is the strength of the offense. Mario Craver is back along with Ashton Bethel-Roman. Isaiah Horton from Alabama looked great. True freshman Aaron Gregory flashed. -OL is a question. They lose 4 guys to the NFL. They bring in 4 full-time starters from SEC programs but none played at a high level last year. The starting 5 won't be as good this year but I do think they're deeper. -DL will be good again. Marco Jones looks like he is ready to take the next step. Wow, what a great scouting job on EDGE Anto Saka from Northwestern! He played like an All-SEC selection. DJ Hicks is their top interior guy but CJ Mims and DJ Sanders also played quality football. -Unfortunately they lost captain LB Daymion Sanford to a serious injury in the game. The unit is a question mark with them already losing Taurean York. However, Noah Mikhail did have a great game. -Secondary will be a strength. They are loaded and I really liked the physicality of Colorado transfer Tawfiq Byard to start the scrimmage. -Lots of true freshman stood out highlighted by 5-star CB Brandon Arrington. 6-foot-2, great arm length. LB Tamarion Watkins, S Tylan Wilson and RB Carsyn Baker were other freshman that flashed. -Kicking game looked much improved including a 53-yarder. -Lots of pre-snap penalties. More than any other spring game I've seen so far this year. They weren't very good in that department last year either. -Projection: 8-4 or 9-3. 8.5 win total is fair. Schedule is significantly tougher than last year. I have six of Texas A&M's games projected at a FG or less. They have to play clean and I have some doubts.
