Capitalism is not a thing. It was a concept created by Marx to 'other' the default human behavior of producing a surplus for trade. As a concept, it exists only as a pole against which communism can be triangulated. Before Capital, the concept didn't exist. So why do we still refer to the default human behavior as an -ism? No one needs to read a book to do it, and one need not have a special belief system to understand it. It is not an -ism.
