The CEO of the world's biggest cloud platform thinks replacing junior devs with AI is idiotic.
Matt Garman (AWS CEO) called it "one of the dumbest things I've ever heard."
His 3 reasons:
1. Juniors are the most experienced with AI tools → they get more out of them than senior staff.
2. Juniors are the least expensive employees → cutting them gives you almost no cost savings.
3. No juniors = no talent pipeline → no future seniors, and eventually the whole thing collapses on itself.
AI should remove the drudgery, not the people.

@karpathy @leogau @gallabytes If the platform is public it'll be plagued with similar issues. It's sad, but it'll fall on you to mitigate this by ensuring you dumb down and communicate with people on their level (no long paragraphs, jargons), because people lack the rigour to read more than video captions.

people are clowning on him for this post bc they don't realize how big a deal this is - Claude Code feels like I've got a pairing partner, tag feels like managing a team. I take on way more 1-off projects and parallel research tracks with this thing than I ever did with cc.

This is a new paradigm for interacting with Claude that is significantly more "inline" with all the other human activity org-wide. Once you do all of the under the hood engineering work to make this "just work" (e.g. across tools, integrations, compute environments, memory, security, etc.), Claude basically joins the team in a seamless way - you can talk to it as you would talk to a person and it can help with a very large variety of workloads. Imo this is the 3rd major redesign of LLM UIUX. The first paradigm was that the LLM is a website you go to, the second was that it is an app you download to your computer. This third one is that it is a self-contained, persistent, asynchronous entity with org-wide tools and context, working alongside teams of humans. It really takes a while to wrap your head around it, but it works and it is awesome.

This is correct, I think a number of people on the tl didn’t read past the title and made inferences and comparisons that are just wrong and then use it as an opportunity to take cheap shots. This is not a “feature” like some crappy Slack bot and it’s certainly not a Claw, though it has aspects of it. It is an org-level harness. The difference will become clearer over time.

Claude Code automatically adds itself to the commit metadata "Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus <noreply@anthropic.com>".
I strongly disagree with crediting Claude as a commit co-author. It is a tool I'm paying for, not a copyright holder, not an author. We don't credit Visual Studio.
