🚨 PUBLIC ALARM Students in EKSU Ekiti State University report that every night for the last 3-4 days, unknown masked men with guns invade their school/hostel environment terrorising them. Channels TV reporter, Charles Opurum, has recounted a viølent incident that allegedly occurred yesterday at a filling station in Rumuola, Port Harcourt. Giving an account of what transpired, Charles Opurum said: “Yesterday, I suffered a very vicious att@ck at the hands of some Aboki men at Restopark fueling station, Rumuola. While trying to access the station to buy petrol for my car, the entrance was blocked by a vehicle that was apparently negotiating with an elderly northerner. I kept honking for him to move so I could pass, but it took over 15 seconds before the vehicle was cleared. The northerner then started cussing me out for honking at them. I also replied him from inside my car as I drove past towards the pump. As I stepped out of my vehicle, the man approached me aggressively and slåpped me without any provocation. I immediately returned the slap with force, which knocked him back. Within seconds, I was surrounded by other Aboki men at the station. They began h!tting me from all angles, but I managed to escape and drive off. However, a policeman attached to the station shockingly damaged my front and rear windshields. One of the men who was hanging onto my vehicle and punching me fell off as I drove away, and my tire ran over his foot. I immediately went to the police station to report the incident. The DPO of Rumuepirikom Police Station, CSP John Ayah, sent three patrol vehicles to arrest those involved. Surprisingly, all the Aboki men at the station came out in large numbers to resist the police. Eventually, the man who started the issue by slåpping me was arrested along with a few others. Upon seeing me, the manager of the fueling station apologized for how I was treated and provided CCTV footage of the incident. The matter has now moved to the DPO’s office.”

US ambassador Brent Bozell must be expelled from South Africa immediately. Today. Right after that, he met with an Israeli lobby group and published a funding appeal for poor, innocent Israel against the big, bad Hamas and Hezbollah - knowing fully well that South Africa is currently pursuing a genocide case against Israel at the ICJ. I have never heard of a foreign ambassador trying to run a parallel foreign policy framework in his host country, which directly contradicts its stated foreign policy. If South Africa does not expel this man yesterday, it will be sending a message that the US ambassador is superior to the South African president, and that even a racist apartheid cheerleader can get away with anything in South Africa as long as he is the right kind of foreigner.

Nigeria is facing a troubling contradiction. What type of country are we trying to bequeath for our children? The same lawmakers who have proposed a fine of ₦10 million and up to two years in prison for dual political party membership have simultaneously removed certificate forgery, age falsification, and false declarations as grounds for challenging an election in a tribunal. This is in direct contradiction to the provisions of the Constitution of Nigeria (1999, as amended). This situation raises a fundamental question about the priorities of our political system. In any serious democracy, the gravest offense in public life is deceiving the people to gain power. Submitting false documents, falsifying one’s age, forging certificates, and making dishonest declarations to electoral authorities are among the most serious offenses in any democracy. Such actions not only lead to automatic disqualification but also warrant criminal prosecution. Yet today, our electoral system seems more focused on protecting political structures than on upholding the truth. There is no justification for prioritizing punishment for party alignment over punishing false certificates, forgery, and other forms of deception in the pursuit of public office. Laws should strengthen democracy, not weaken it. They should promote ethical leadership rather than lower standards for those who aspire to govern. A nation cannot rise above the integrity of its leaders. If we truly want a better Nigeria, our laws must defend truth, character, competence, and accountability. We cannot continue to tolerate criminal behavior. A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO
