When I was a medical student in Manchester I developed a devastating mental health condition triggered by the trauma of the Lebanon war, poverty, accommodation & food insecurity & being far removed from my loved ones. The symptoms were so severe I was forced to interrupt medical school. I was stigmatised & shunned & I lost all hope I’d ever recover & qualify. However, with specialist support from a Consultant psychiatrist I slowly got my life back on track, resumed medical school & graduated. I wanted to help patients with mental health conditions the same way the consultant psychiatrist helped me so I decided to specialise in psychiatry. Today is my first day as Consultant Psychiatrist. What an opportunity to serve society & to support the most vulnerable amongst us. I promise I’ll do everything I can to improve the lives of patients with mental health conditions. Special thanks to Prof @gedbyrne & @DrRZaman who saw me at my lowest all those years ago (way before I joined Twitter!) & who empowered me to recover & realise my potential.

Today’s news: 19,000 people evacuated from fires on Island of Rhodes. We have a climate emergency. Politicians of all parties have to show leadership and tackle this crisis - it must be the top National and City Level priority. There is no planet B.

Uxbridge & ULEZ 1. ULEZ was initiated by Boris Johnson long before Sadiq Khan. 2. The Conservative government under Grant Shapps made expanding ULEZ a condition of providing financial support to TFL during covid. 3. The Conservative government have provided funds to cities such as Birmingham (with a Conservative mayor), but not to London (with a Labour mayor). Clean air is good, we need more of it. Underfunding from the Conservative government which has caused the ULEZ charge is the problem. - Billions given to bankers in tax cuts, billions wasted in PPE/covid fraud, billions wasted on refugee bargees. We need a different and better government. A pity the people of Uxbridge voted for more of the same.

I understand ‘challenge’ in running terms to be trying something you don’t know you can do. Running across the Grand Canyon (&back) fitted that bill for me. Now feeling very lucky to be back safe, after the most incredible experience. Now for a comfy nights sleep ⛺️🙄
