@dogsoftheshire @jeff_xrp @LeighWolf "Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and moral condition."

@AngeloStagnaro @LeighWolf Can't forget the Japanese believed themselves to be the most superior Asian race, so they even had the racial element like the Nazi's — the "Greater Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere" was the equivalent of Germany's "Lebensraum." Very misguided for OP to say Japan was not fascist.

@LeighWolf I’m shocked I have to tell you @LeighWolf but the Japanese Empire was fascistic. As was Spain, Portugal, Mexico and a lot of other nations. It was all the rage at the time.

@ItsPingu3D @jamskins @Pirat_Nation No. I put out my game on Steam, and Steam MANDATES that your game is NEVER cheaper ANYWHERE AT ANY TIME. If your game goes on sale? It's gotta be the same price on steam or they'll remove you from their storefront. Also, Valve owes me money, fucking bastards.

@jamskins @Pirat_Nation Like, if u wanna sell on steam, you game cant be at a lower price than on steam. They could probably work around this with discount codes or sales. Im sure there has to be a gray area with discounts but the base game price has to be the same across all platforms

Newly revealed court documents from an ongoing antitrust lawsuit claim that Valve once threatened to remove Rainbow Six Siege from Steam after Ubisoft tried selling the game at a lower price on its own storefront, Uplay. According to the reports, Ubisoft introduced a cheaper “Starter Pack” version of Rainbow Six Siege outside of Steam. Valve allegedly warned Ubisoft that the game could be removed from Steam if the pricing difference wasn’t addressed. Ubisoft changed course, and the game remained on the platform.

@cid_gonzal @Jackson652472 @Pirat_Nation New developers won't develop multiplayer titles because of the bill (this bill legally mandates a lot of extra work to get nothing for the company or the game itself in return) That means the established titles everyone already hates will only further solidify their place.

Huge win for gamers and consumer rights! The California State Assembly just passed AB 1921, the Protect Our Games Act. It passed on the floor by a vote of 43 to 16. The bill would force video game companies to give players a heads-up before they shut down the servers for a game. It would also make them provide a way for people to keep playing afterward, like adding offline mode or letting community servers take over. Quick recap of what the bill does: >60-day advance notice before any server shutdown or major service change that would make a game unplayable in its “ordinary use.” >Companies must then provide a workable solution so players can keep playing, usually an offline mode/patch, community server support, or (in some cases) a full refund. >Applies to digital games first sold or substantially re-released in California after January 1, 2027. >Does not affect subscription games, free-to-play titles, or games that are already permanently offline/single-player. >Enforceable by the Attorney General or district attorneys. In short: If you buy a game, you should still be able to play it even after the company moves on. No more “purchase” turning into a rental that expires when the servers die.

@Minmatar0 @Holyniwa @Pirat_Nation You're definitely right. The entire industry definitely needs more incentive to get away from that kind of thing. I like Steam, appreciate use it, but I know that Valve is not some saint of a company that protects us from the evils of big mega corps. They ARE the big mega corp.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney is getting backlash after attacking Gabe Newell following the Steam Deck OLED price hike and saying he needs the money to buy more superyachts. Valve says the increases are due to rising RAM and SSD component costs, but Sweeney wasn’t buying it. “Valve needs the extra revenue to continue maintaining its megayachts.”

@Holyniwa @Pirat_Nation Nothing to love about Gabe Newell. We can respect what Valve has done, but at the end of the day, just like Ubisoft, Valve is an "Own nothing and like it" company. Everything you buy is a license to use, basically just a tenant on their servers who can be evicted for any reason.

@simongerman600 Maybe because it stretches across only parts of many states, most people wouldn’t consider it a region of the US (like, say, plains, great lakes, midwest, northeast, south(east), etc.) but it is probably more distinct from neighbouring regions than other regions are from theirs.

@Escapissed85 @Pirat_Nation The developers on Highguard had profit sharing built into their employment. Everyone was vested in the game doing well, but, according to the article, leadership refused to listen to the concerns of the team. It was proposed that they do public tests but that was rejected.

@MadamSavvy If all 10 of those people were getting a $100,000 salary, that's a million a year — and I bet for that California lifestyle, 100k is probably pretty low. Million a year for an "Indie" studio, eh? Whoever put up their money in this studio really fucked up bad

I went through their website again and went through ALL the staff they have listed. They have a LOT of wasted paid positions which are absolutely INSANE for a "start up" to have. These people were never serious about this, and whoever told them to have these positions should remove themselves from the industry. It seems like they never made good financial or time management choices at all, because why does a START UP have SO MANY outsourcing managers? Is this what you all learned from your AAA companies? explains a lot on why Highguard makers Wildlight entertainment failed. The more they share, the more it makes sense they were NEVER going to make a good product. Every single person associated with this studio is a walking red flag.

Highguard lead character concept artist Cristina Ferez revealed she was the only character concept artist and had to lead the mtx (micro transactions) team at the same time. She only had 2-3 weeks to design a character, and lead the mtx team within those weeks, which was very challenging for her. #Highguard

@JosephStec @KareemRifai @Randaccounting @obsessedriah Figure Skating at the 1994 Winter Olympics had 4 events, with Russia winning 3 golds. Baiul for Ukraine was the only non-Russian to win a gold. If this was before 1991, Baiul would've been considered a Russian athlete, thus would've been a sweep in figure skating.

@Lassharleymari1 @HarlequinClips @Muj_in OW and Fortnite also had the support of multi-billion dollar enterprise machines behind them before day 1. These devs had investment, but it was also made up of a core group of proven developers who shipped games that sold billions before. They were "insider indie" but w/o the QA

Just keep in mind, every time you see layoffs from a game developer, it means that they're throwing their employees into the worst video game job market in history. It's IMPOSSIBLE to find a job right now, and yet there's no shortage of flops releasing often, make it make sense.
Wildlight Entertainment@WildlightEnt

Today we made an incredibly difficult decision to part ways with a number of our team members while keeping a core group of developers to continue innovating on and supporting the game. We're proud of the team, talent, and the product we've created together. We're also grateful for players who gave the game a shot, and those who continue to be a part of our community.

@RedPhoenixTR @Raptor_16 You don't get an ad slot in something like TGA and then get to say "Maybe you're not the target audience of our game" and "We have no obligation to make games you want." A slot in a show like that is meant to attract broad appeal, not focus on a "target audience."

Nobody is forcing you to play anything. You don’t like? Don’t play. Thats OK. Whats not okay is to being a hater towards something you dont even played. Just leave it be, don’t wish it to be unsuccessful, if they are really bad they will anyway. Do you hate on Nike for producing the shoes you don’t like? You just don’t buy it and buy something else. What gives you the right to wish doom on games you just don’t like? You don’t owe us anything, we don’t owe you anything. We have no obligation to make the game you like. We may target different groups of people entirely. If a game is not for you then that means you were never the target audience. Pass along and go play what you like. Leave people be.

LOL, don’t look at the replies if you want to be sane. “You shouldn’t make bad games then!” Yeah by that logic, Kojima would have never made MGS because it was labeled a bad game/genre when he came up with the idea. How do you know something is bad before doing it? Live-service? No, because there are millions of people actively playing live service games. You want people to stop trying even before they start creating. Then blame Ubisoft for making the same game over and over again. The problem is you guys, blame the dev when it’s not something everyone wants, but when a dev makes something you want 100 times you still blame the dev.
Ataberk Ateş@RedPhoenixTR

Every studio closed, every person laid off hurts this industry. If you are rooting for these games to fail / studios to close because you think they will start making what you like, YOU ARE MISTAKEN. That's not how things work. People try new things and that's the spice of games. Do you really believe people who made Titanfall is bad at making games and just suddenly decided to create something nobody will play? They tried, it may have failed but without someone trying we'll have the same things over and over again. The main problem is the time it takes to ship a game now. 6 YEARS! Even the biggest studios have 1 shot now, if a game fails you have to have 6 years of development costs to have another shot. Which currently most studios doesn't have the luxury. Making mistakes and producing less favorable games are the part of this industry but we have to make sure that the time to develop these games doesn't guarantee your studios fall once it fails. We have to reduce the scopes and make smaller games.

@shinobi602 I will never understand how little faith some studios have in their own projects. The launch was rough, the player numbers weren’t great, but they still had around 5k people playing? For a 5v5 game that’s not that bad. Why couldn’t they just release the game in beta first?
