@rodbishop15 I am Saul become Paul. Have discovered that my private school/Russell Group, rugby playing, RP speaking, young professional, black sons are routinely stopped for no reason and don’t even bother telling me. @pritipatel , what the hell is going on?

Let’s be completely honest. Those calling for more drilling in the North Sea do not accept climate science and the need to reach net zero. They do not accept reality.

@ftenergy These are not scientists, sorry. Any scientist or engineer would know low domestic production has a lower carbon cost than imported LNG. I suspect these are arts graduates cosplaying as scientists - again.

Oh dear @lewis_goodall not sure who you speak with, but everywhere I go informed decent people understand how lucky we are to have our Keir as PM. A serious, calm, hardworking PM with integrity.

Why do people put out lies about loss of GDP and trade from Brexit based on out of date wrong forecasts? The official numbers for trade and GDP over the last ten years show no Brexit losses, with the UK outperforming Germany for GDP.

More drilling in the North Sea would be a disastrous move by Labour, and an utter betrayal of their climate promises. For lower bills we need more renewables, not to hitch ourselves to an international fossil fuel market that delivers price shocks and worry for struggling families.

@BermudaBat @Jennyfurfuls @grok @TerraOrBust Yep, David is correct! By the way, the OBR assumed that total UK trade (both goods and services, and with the whole world) would be 15% lower than otherwise as a result of leaving the EU. This has clearly not happened.

I know everyone is different, but when Labour came to office I was paying £180 a month and now I'm paying around £135 a month for gas and electric. Around £500 less a yr.

@RoryStewartUK @JohnCleese Muslims believe that the Quran is the literal word of god (!) so they take its imprecations to violence. Christians know that books are written by fallible humans and the verses you cite can be ignored.

.@JohnCleese - What would Christian “culture” look like if you represented it with 1 Sam 15:3 Josh 6:21 Deut 7:1 Deut 20:16–18 Ex 17 - Deut 25 Psalm 137:9 etc? How about actually meeting some Muslims and listening to them instead of demonising a religion you know very little about with selective quotations…
John Cleese@JohnCleese

This is complete nonsense To criticise a culture whose holy book advocates the killing of all the people they disagree with...is not racist It's culturalist And this criticism seems wholly justifiable to me Oh ! There's the door bell. Must be the police...

I am sorry but this is plain wrong. The goal is to reach net zero emissions globally. Extracting every last bit of oil and gas from the North Sea is not consistent with that goal. Why can’t @Conservatives be straight with the public on energy and climate?
Harriet Cross MP@HarrietCross_MP

To those using a climate change argument as a reason to close down North Sea oil & gas... 👉Supporting the UK's oil & gas sector and wanting to reduce carbon emissions is not incompatible. In fact, it is essential. Explained ⤵️⤵️

@AdrianRamsay Most of licences haven’t been drilled yet, Adam. Let’s focus on getting CO2 emissions down. First step, replace high-CO2 imported LNG with low CO2 gas from the North Sea. I’m sure you agree this is obvious.

Last time in Gov, you handed out hundreds of North Sea licences at huge cost and environmental damage, for just 36 days of gas. The idea that giving big oil a blank cheque to drill in the North Sea will lower energy bills is laughable.

This Tory MP’s Party privatised North Sea oil & gas in the 1980s & spent the money halving Income Tax for the rich. Norway, however, used publicly-owned Statoil to build the world’s largest Sovereign Wealth Fund. Tories plundered our birthright & are trying to re-write history.

How is Norway able to fund such a Defence budget when we aren’t? One factor is they’re still drilling in the North Sea - we buy their fossil fuels from the same basin we deny ourselves the economic benefit from. Madness.

@KathrynPorter26 @jonburkeUK Oh yes they did Britoil set up on 1975 but Thatcher sold it on the stock market in 1982. Eventually bought by BP in 1985. Also the BNOC set up to trade oil but the Conservatives hamstrung it financially and traded away

@KathrynPorter26 @vicsinghb @jonburkeUK Unusually, you’re wrong. BNOC was the nationalised O&G company, but was tiny with only 6% of Notth Sea production (“thatcher sold the n sea” loons also cite BP, but BP didn’t produce in the N Sea when the government still had shares). BNOC was privatised as Britoil, bought by BP.

@jonburkeUK No, they didn't... The state never had an oil and gas production company the way it did with electricity generation But Labour was in office for over a decade... They could have nationalised it

@DavidMcGregorBN You are aware that taxes are a cost, right? And that taxes pay for all this? So there’s zero net gain? In fact, a loss, given the notorious inefficiency of the civil service.
