Bentuknya beda. Konteksnya beda. Tapi akarnya sama. Penasaran gimana kalau “akar” itu bisa terlihat. #MemeDNA #web3

Meme sering terasa spontan. Tiba-tiba ada. Tiba² viral. 🧬 #MemeDNA

Memes are the DNA of internet culture. But today, they are treated as 'disposable' reposted, screenshotted, and stripped of their origin. Imagine if every masterpiece from @9GAG , @memeadikt , or @pepe_fgm had a permanent, invisible ID. No more lost attribution. We’re making this real using @numbersprotocol NID technology. Every meme gets a home. 🧬

IF YOU CAN'T PROVE IT , YOU DON'T OWN IT Detection helps , But it’s still reactive. We’re entering a phase where creators shouldn’t just post they should be able to prove. Provenance needs to be built-in, not guessed after the fact. @numbersprotocol is building that layer, and we’re bringing it into meme culture with MemeDNA 🧬

Providing more credit to the original uploader seemed like a pretty obvious move Live on both Web and iOS

#MemeDNA #MemeCulture #web3

Memes used to be jokes. Now they move markets, shape narratives, and outlive the news cycle. But here’s the problem: most viral memes today have no owner, no origin, no proof. We’ve been building internet culture… without memory. From rage comics to AI-generated content, memes became the native language of the internet yet still treated as disposable. No credit. No lineage. Just endless reposts until the creator disappears. That used to be fine. It’s not anymore. Today, memes are: • tools for public opinion • digital assets with real value • cultural records of real events Without provenance, we lose context, truth, and ownership. And with AI flooding the internet, the line between original and generated is fading fast. Soon, everything will look real and proof will matter more than creation itself. That’s why provenance isn’t optional anymore. It’s infrastructure. Projects like MemeDNA , powered by @numbersprotocol , are building a system where every piece of content has a verifiable origin, traceable history, and immutable identity. Because in a world where anything can go viral, the real question is: can you prove it was yours first? Don’t just go viral. Be remembered. 🧬 memedna.site #MemeDNA #Provenance #Web3 #DigitalIdentity #InternetCulture #AI #NumbersProtocol

Internet dibangun dari meme. Tapi meme sendiri nggak punya memori. Nggak ada origin. Nggak ada urutan evolusi. Nggak ada identitas. Rasanya ada yang kurang lengkap di situ. Lagi eksplor cara melihat meme sebagai artefak budaya, bukan cuma hiburan. #MemeDNA #MemeCulture #web3

The Internet Made Pepe the Frog Viral — But Took Away Its Ownership The internet has created an era where a piece of content can become global within hours. But behind this unprecedented distribution power lies a critical problem that is often overlooked: the loss of ownership by the original creator. The case of Matt Furie and Pepe the Frog stands as one of the clearest examples of this phenomenon. Pepe was never intended to be a global symbol. It began as a character in an indie comic called Boy’s Club. However, as the internet adopted and reshaped it, Pepe evolved into something far beyond its creator’s control. The character was endlessly remixed, reused without permission, and eventually associated with contexts that Furie never intended. At that point, Pepe was no longer just a piece of art , it had become a decentralized digital entity. This situation pushed Furie to take legal action. In 2019, he filed a lawsuit against InfoWars for unauthorized use of Pepe. The case ended in a settlement of $15,000 in Furie’s favor. Source: theguardian.com/books/2019/jun… This outcome established an important precedent: the popularity of a meme does not erase copyright. Creators still retain legal ownership of their work, even when it becomes part of internet culture. However, the case also exposed a deeper issue. Legal systems are inherently reactive. Creators must pursue violations one by one, while content spreads at exponential speed. Each legal victory addresses only a fraction of a much larger, ongoing problem. At the same time, technological advancements show that solutions for digital integrity already exist yet they have not been widely applied to internet culture. One example is the use of verification technology by Numbers Protocol during Indonesia’s 2024 Presidential Election: voteid2024.numbersprotocol.io In this context, technology was used to ensure the authenticity and integrity of visual data, helping maintain trust in the information being distributed. This raises an important question: If we can verify the authenticity of data in something as critical as an election, why don’t we have similar systems to protect digital creations and memes? The Pepe case highlights a fundamental gap in today’s internet infrastructure: ~ No reliable system to track content provenance ~ No persistent attribution for creators ~ No control over how content evolves and spreads As a result, once content goes viral, its origin and ownership often disappear. Now imagine if Pepe had a native digital identity from the beginning. Every version, remix, and distribution could be traced as part of a single content lineage. With such a system: ~ The original creator remains recognized ~ Content evolution becomes transparent ~ Value remains connected to its source The internet has given us limitless distribution. But distribution without identity and ownership creates new and increasingly complex challenges. The story of Matt Furie is not just about a meme. It reflects a structural weakness in the digital ecosystem. More importantly, it signals that the future of the internet requires more than virality. It requires a system where distribution, identity, and ownership are fundamentally connected.

Meme itu hidup. Ia berubah mengikuti konteks, tren, dan emosi internet. Tapi anehnya, kita memperlakukannya seperti gambar sekali pakai.

"Trust is scarce. We're fixing that together." ~Numbers Protocol We couldn't agree more. In the midst of the AI content storm and digital manipulation, "seeing" is no longer enough to "believe". Building trust on the internet cannot be done alone; it must be a collective effort. 🤝🧬 MemeDNA stands at the forefront to ensure our internet culture "Memes" has a clear identity and an unmanipulable lineage. Powered by @numbersprotocol infrastructure, we provide a "digital passport" for every creative work, ensuring it never becomes "stateless" content when crossing between platforms. Let’s restore digital content integrity. Because a better internet begins with transparency and verified ownership. Kita hafal wajah meme.

Unpopular thought: Memes evolve like code… but we’ve never treated them that way. What if memes had version control? 🧵

#memedna #web3 #provenance
