Cultivated meat is not on track to ever be economically competitive with animal meat. Modern factory farms have cut out almost all costs that aren't strictly biologically necessary for the production of muscle. And animal evolution has been optimizing the conversion of energy into muscle for billions of years. That means that cultivated meat needs to beat billions of years of accumulated evolutionary efficiency to become competitive. That's an extremely hard challenge. It's maybe even harder than building AGI, since evolution has only been optimizing for intelligence for tens of millions of years.

#AWF We are doing our part by raising funds for animal welfare, regardless of the strategy each organization chooses to create impact. Our goal is simple: to help animals and reduce suffering on a large scale. We will continue supporting serious and effective causes, but we believe that greater transparency through communication is essential to strengthen community trust and encourage even more donations. When people understand the impact their contributions are creating, they become even more motivated to give. We remain committed to the cause and simply hope for some feedback that will allow us to share with the community the results achieved through their contributions.

Animal welfare is one of the most important issues in the world today - and so we should focus *less* on veganism and vegetarianism. That was Lewis Bollard's argument when he came on the podcast:

I do not believe the organizations receiving donations are being dishonest. However, there must be some level of communication with donors. We are still waiting for a response from Lewis, especially since the official pages have not made any public statement. Our community wants to continue donating more and more to high-impact causes, but we need greater transparency through communication. We understand that managing charitable funds takes time and effort, but even a brief update would go a long way in maintaining trust and motivation among contributors. We are committed to supporting animal welfare and other effective causes, and we hope to receive some feedback on the impact of these donations soon.

Our community has donated five times more, and so far we haven't received any feedback at all regarding where those funds went. We would appreciate your help with this matter, as we're still waiting for information about the destination and impact of our donations. Thank you.

Compared to other fiats quite possibly, but compared to synthetic baskets other than fiat, much less clear. Different people's profiles of expected expenses are different. Some are regular individuals and families, some are running businesses. Some spend mainly on food, medicine and housing, others on AI tokens. Some have children, some don't. Some live in large cities with spiking rent prices, others in the countryside. USD or any single fiat is far too homogeneous to effectively provide price stability to all these groups.

USD is actually far from the best choice. --- What do people who want stablecoins ultimately want? They want price stability. They have some future expenses in mind, and they want a guarantee that will be able to pay those expenses. But if crypto grows on top of USD-backed stablecoins, crypto is ultimately not truly decentralized. Furthermore, different people have different types of expenses. There has been lots of thinking about making an "ideal stablecoin" that is based on some decentralized global price index, but what if the real solution is to go a step further, and get rid of the concept of currency altogether? Here's the idea. You have price indices on all major categories of goods and services that people buy (treating physical goods/services in different regions as different categories), and prediction markets on each category. Each user (individual or business) has a local LLM that understands that user's expenses, and offers the user a personalized basket of prediction market shares, representing "N days of that user's expected future expenses". Now, we do not need fiat currency at all! People can hold stocks, ETH, or whatever else to grow wealth, and personalized prediction market shares when they want stability.

I increasingly feel like transparency should be the main demand/frame that the AIS community tries to meme. It's broadly popular, will help keep the AIS community and public institutions relevant during takeoff, and is more justified than pausing (imo).
