In this cohort study of patients with ASPECTS 0-2 based on NCCT within 24 hours of stroke onset, those treated with EVT had higher odds of a favorable functional outcome compared with those who received SMT. jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman…

Sobering data. Significant return on investment for all ICS and most importantly an ability to prevent, treat and rehabilitate this recoverable condition 🧠 Making stroke a priority makes sense as end to end evidence based pathway already in policy @NHSEngland @TheStrokeAssoc

Wondered if anyone was interested in applying to help us expand in Gloucestershire by joining a dynamic team of Acute Physicians with one of the most interesting medical takes in the region? Apply through NHS jobs. I am available if you have questions. @NHSGlos @gloshospitals

1/ Short 🧵 on lies, damned lies, & statistics I've seen some rather misleading use of statistics on the BBC / Sky today, its not clear whether they dont understand the differences, or they are trying to mislead Please read all & share / RT

@car1sberg There are 3 centres in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and Stoke. I think more centres are on way to become 24/7. Thanks for the MP form.

Around 6.00am on a Sunday morning in June 2020, Peter was opening the door to let the dogs out. He suddenly had an overwhelming sense of vertigo, and fell out of the door, ending up in a heap on the lawn. He tried calling for help, but he couldn't speak. "I was blue-lighted to the Royal Stoke Hospital @UHNM_NHS . What neither my wife nor I knew at the time was that there were only 8 hospitals in England offering the treatment I urgently needed on a 24/7 basis. It was early on a Sunday, so I was incredibly lucky to be close to one of these 24/7 world-class stroke centres. I was wheeled into an operating theatre just a few hours after my stroke." That stroke treatment was thrombectomy. Peter's stroke was caused by a blood clot. Thrombectomy enables the surgeon to insert a tube into the affected artery and 'grab' the blood clot to remove it. This immediately restores the flow of blood to the brain, like turning a light switch on – the patient visibly and quickly switches on again. "Instead of weeks or months of intensive care and rehabilitation, and likely permanent disability, I walked off the ward the next day. The morning after, at 6.00am, I opened the door again and took the dogs out for their walk. I still needed rehabilitation, but my thrombectomy allowed it to be minimal." "I'm one of the lucky few to benefit from the miracle treatment thrombectomy. There are many more who should be getting this treatment, but can't get access to a specialist facility in time." Last year, 6,903 people missed out on thrombectomy. This is why Peter joins us in asking you to email your MP inviting them to a parliamentary drop-in about thrombectomy. @TheStrokeAssoc put together a template so it couldn’t be easier to tell them that thrombectomy matters to you: bit.ly/3r4HsF6 #SavingBrains #Thrombectomy #INR #Stroke #StrokeCare #StrokeRecovery
