@limpinglibrary

disability, poetry, and sometimes some dragons. I'm a librarian and academic interested in cripping your kidlit. All opinions are my own.

It's out! Thank you @ladyredjess and @amandatink for helping 'Who Gets to Survive the Apocalypse? Disability Hierarchy in Post-Disaster Fiction in Australian YA' out in the world as part of this issue. Always love to write about how #CripLit & #kidlit help us imagine crip futures

Australian Literary Studies is proud to publish our latest issue edited by @ladyredjess and @amandatink: Writing Disability in Australian Literature. A major intervention in Austlit scholarship with important new work, read more here: australianliterarystudies.com.au/articles/writi…

I had to stop reading Metal From Heaven by @sapphomancer at a point (one of many) where it became clear that everything has just changed, and on the one hand I'm exhausted and do not have the mental capacity to survive this ending and on the other OMG WHAT THE FUCK

“I keep having this fear when I’m crossing the road that I’m actually looking at a car but for some reason I can’t see it and then it hits me and I die.” Our latest Friday fiction is IT'S PROBABLY FINE by @_budgie overland.org.au/2024/05/its-pr…

The only thing people can imagine about disabled people is our deaths and they’re usually the cause of it.

@amandatink I started the process to apply for the NDIS and ended up having panic attacks. I knew it was finish the PhD OR these forms, not both. I think it was around the time I asked for supports for keratoconus, which, because it is not related to my CP, my LAC didn't think existed.

The @NDIS sent me another email yesterday, still claiming that I asked for increased funding when I did not. Meanwhile they ignore my request for the service I need and continue to insist that I get a completely useless report.

@emmawhatman Thesis intro draft is finally, FINALLY coming together. This is the last big bit of writing before submission in September and has been giving me ulcers.

2. I am probably @westernsydneyu 's first blind and neurodivergent phD graduate. And they will get all the credit for that, while they are putting me through all of this. I just want to enjoy my graduation ceremony with my guests like every other student can.

@REIYL_Community Oh no. I am so sorry. He was a beautiful person and incredibly kind to me when I was a jet-lagged Australian in Glasgow.

Emerson was one of our first and most enthusiastic supporters of REIYL and became a good friend who reached out to share resources and a kind word when things seemed impossible. His brilliance and generous spirit is a gift that we will always celebrate and appreciate.

Em's husband Chris here. Emerson passed away on the 15th. He'd had breathing problems in Dec; tests showed half his heart was struggling. He'd felt vaguely sick the prev night but no worse. I assume the heart was the cause, not sure if a post mortem is needed. More at Facebook.

It's #IDPD2022 (or #Cripmas) and we are so grateful to know so many incredibly talented, fierce, and just all-round awesome disabled people. Here's some recommended disabled/crip poetry reads from us (a thread)

I’m not sure if it’s denial / being busy with work and writing projects, but it still feels absolutely not real that Boston isn’t ever coming back. Like I’m a totally different person without him. When I do think about it, life is struck into ‘before’ and ‘after’. Not a fan 💔

@SarahStivens The Sunbearer Trials / Aiden Thomas. Glorious queer normative stuff that I'd marketed as a mix of the hunger games and Percy Jackson but is SO MUCH more than the sum of its parts
