Hello!! We’re the OSC Team ^^ We, the team behind Object Stream Community, are trying to give object shows a proper home. We wanted to create a less chaotic place and give more visibility to object shows that deserve more attention. That would help both creators and viewers, because let’s be honest, when someone first starts watching object shows, it can be hard to know where to begin and Object Stream Community was created exactly to solve that problem!! Object Stream Community is a free, fan-made home for Object Shows, where you can discover, watch, and keep up with the series you love in one place. Every episode plays through YouTube’s official player, so creators always keep their views and their credit. Anyways we’re a small team of four people, plus a few collaborators from time to time, working to bring to that idea. The team is made up of: - I Dan K: Founder and Lead Developer, handling frontend, backend, and architecture. - NotAnnex.j: Creative Director and QA Lead, focusing on artwork, art direction, and quality control. - ManuelYBF: Graphic Designer, working on the logo, icons, and illustrations. - Cozzmoyo: Animator and Motion Graphics Designer, handling 2D/2.5D animation. Each of us has tried to contribute in our own way, and we’ve done our best to make it as nice as possible #ObjectShow #ObjectShows #ObjectStreamCommunity #Kickstarter #BFDI

fair enough, you're right that display ads are a real line there, but a couple of things that matter here: by your own numbers the other ~90% is video ads (skippable, non-skippable, bumper), and all of those do run on the official embed and pay exactly the same, so an embedded view still earns you the large majority of what a native one would, not way less, and more importantly, your video on YouTube doesn't go anywhere, we're an addition, not a replacement, your original keeps earning 100% (display ads included) from everyone who watches it there, our embed is just extra reach sitting on top of that, so any view that comes through us is realistically one you'd never have gotten otherwise, someone who'd never have found your show on YouTube in the first place, that's extra watch time and revenue landing in your pocket that simply wasn't there before, so we're adding to what you earn, not shaving anything off it -Dan <3

If you aren’t paying your creators through the website, why do you need $24500 to run it just for one year? Why take peoples money to display object shows already uploaded on youtube for free just to dosplay the youtube videos anyways, especially when it’ll pay creators less? -🧵

this one's actually a really common misconception, and it's worth clearing up since it comes straight from YouTube themselves, the official YouTube embed (which is exactly what we use) still serves the normal in-stream ads, pre-rolls, mid-rolls, all of it, and the creator earns that revenue the same as a view on youtube.com, embedded views also count toward their views and watch time, YouTube's own help page says it plainly: embedded videos show in-stream ads, and any site that embeds a video generates that ad revenue for the creator, with only YouTube and the video owner earning from it. here's the source: support.google.com/youtube/answer… the only ads that aren't there are YouTube's own page ads on the youtube.com site itself (the banners and the sidebar ones), but those are YouTube's site revenue, not the creator's, and they only pay if someone actually clicks them, so them not being there doesn't take a single cent away from what the creator earns on their video, so watching a monetized video through our embed pays the creator the same as watching it on YouTube directly, nothing gets lost -Dan <3

@spocite For context: If you watch a video as an embed on a website such as Discord (this includes objectstream), it won't show ads outside of the video like YouTube does, so the creator gets less money than they would have if the video was watched natively on YouTube

that part isn't an Italy thing though, honestly any real website has costs, no matter where you are, the Italy stuff (the business registration and pension side) is just one slice of it, like even if we were based anywhere else, you'd still be paying for servers that can handle a lot of people at once, a database, moderation, backups, domains, a security audit, all the behind the scenes stuff that keeps accounts and data safe and the site actually online, and that's a recurring monthly bill for basically every platform out there, not a one time free thing, the "iframe" itself is free, sure, but that's like saying a shop should cost nothing because the front door is cheap, everything around it is where the real cost is, a quick look into what it takes to actually host and run a real web platform would show the same thing ^^ and we'll be breaking down exactly where every euro goes in a proper detailed post soon, so none of it stays a mystery ^^ -Dan <3

yeah exactly, the creators would keep everything on their end no matter what on the "leftover money" idea though, there's honestly a few reasons it wouldn't really work, even if it's a kind thought, first, there wouldn't really be a leftover to begin with, the goal is worked out to just cover the actual costs (and around 20% of whatever gets raised would already be lost to Kickstarter, payments and taxes), and anything that came in past the goal we've already said would go straight back into the platform itself, better servers, community features and so on, so it's already spoken for, second, crowdfunding money legally counts as taxable business revenue here in Italy, it wouldn't be a donation pot we could just scoop from and hand out, redistributing it to a bunch of people would open a whole separate tax and legal mess that honestly wouldn't be feasible for us, and third, the creators genuinely wouldn't be missing out in the first place, they'd keep 100% of their own YouTube views and revenue, and we'd be sending more people their way on top of that, so there'd be nothing really to make up for, we'd be adding to what they get, not taking from it :) as for the "thousands to host an iframe" part, totally fair to still be puzzled by that, and we'll be breaking down exactly what those costs actually are (servers, compliance, the legal business side, none of it the iframe itself) in a proper detailed post or video soon ^^ -Dan <3

@object_stream @frutigerkei @LiteCloud5 While I'm still confused about the thousands of dollars needed to host an iframe, I'm glad to see that creators are at least getting revenue from YouTube. If you have any leftover money from the Kickstarter, I recommend giving it to the creators of each show featured on the site.

there's a lot here so let me actually go through it properly ^^ on the creators: the money has nothing to do with paying them, and it doesn't pay them "less" either, since every episode plays through YouTube's official player they keep 100% of their own views and ad revenue exactly like normal, that stays fully theirs and never touches us, so we're really not competing with YouTube on that, if anything we just send more people to their videos, on the subscriptions and ads: the subscriptions are completely optional, nobody ever has to pay and watching always stays free, the small ads are how the site keeps itself running day to day, light and non-intrusive, and none of it is there to make a profit, only to cover the platform's ongoing costs, the campaign is a separate thing from that, it's there to cover the launch and the first year of costs, and the ideal goal of around 21,500 simply means having that whole first year fully covered, on why it costs anything at all: embedding a video is free, but running a real platform around it isn't a one time thing, it's servers that can survive a launch, moderation, a legally registered business, and handling accounts and data properly, all recurring every year, so far the only figures we've shared are the minimum of around 12,500 and the ideal of around 21,500 (not 24,500), and exactly where every euro goes is something we'll be laying out later in a proper, detailed and fully transparent breakdown, on the data and the vibecoding worries: both are completely fair, I actually already made a full post explaining the vibecoding side, it's right here on the account, and all the data handling (kept in the EU and built around privacy) will be explained in full detail too, so none of it is profit sitting in anyone's pocket, it's just the real cost of doing this legally and safely, all of it broken down openly soon, and I really do appreciate you keeping an open mind on it :) -Dan <3

yes, absolutely! that's basically the whole reason this exists in the first place ^^ so much of the object show scene is smaller creators whose stuff is really hard to stumble onto, and giving those shows a real place to be found is exactly what we're trying to do, so yeah, through the request system you'd be able to add your own show to be considered, the only thing to keep in mind is that it needs to be up on YouTube, since everything plays through the official player, but other than that we'd genuinely love to have smaller creators like you on there, that's kind of the entire point :) -Dan <3

@object_stream In the requests section, will us smaller, very unknown object show creators be able to add our own shows to see if they'll be accepted? This seems like a great way to give smaller creators (like myself) some traction and I'd love for my show to be a part of it!

@squeak841158 yep, exactly that! ^^ on a show's page you can just switch between the languages it has, so the original version and any dubs like that Spanish BFDI one would all sit right there together, and you pick whichever you wanna watch. -Dan <3

@object_stream For object shows that have official dubs, like how BFDI had a Spanish dub for example, would the dub/dubs of the show be easily available for someone to watch as well along with the version of the show in its original language?

thank you so much for jumping in to defend us, it really means a lot ^^ but I've gotta be fair and correct this one, I'm not sure where that came from but the subscriptions don't actually go to the creators, as much as it'd honestly be lovely if we could do that, the reason is that all of it goes toward covering the recurring costs of actually running the site, so the servers, the compliance, the security audit, all the monthly upkeep that keeps the thing online in the first place, so it's not really like a Ko-fi donation to creators, it's more just keeping the lights on, where the creators DO keep everything is their YouTube side, since every episode plays through YouTube's official player, they keep 100% of their own views and ad revenue there, and that part never touches us :) -Dan <3

heya! so a couple of things here, first off nothing on there is stolen, since every episode plays through YouTube's official player, the creators keep 100% of their own views and their own ad revenue, that money is theirs and never comes anywhere near us, we literally cannot and do not touch it, and the money from our side (the optional subs and our own small ads) doesn't go to the devs OR the creators, it goes toward one thing only, paying the recurring costs of actually running the site, because hosting a platform isn't a one time thing you pay once and then it's free forever, it's servers, compliance, security audit, maintenance and upkeep every single month, and that bill has to be covered somehow or the whole thing just goes offline, so it's not profit sitting in anyone's pocket, it's just keeping the lights on, the creators YouTube earnings stay fully theirs, and ours only exist to stop us bleeding money to keep it alive :) -Dan <3

@frutigerkei @LiteCloud5 @object_stream I think a subscription service for stolen OSC content isn't a very ethical way to support the devs. Even if the videos are watchable for free with ads, that ad revenue should instead go to the original creators.
