Once upon a time, Bangalore's colleges were frowned upon. We did not have a college of the stature of Jadavpur, College of Engineering Guindy or College of Engineering Pune. No IIT. No REC/NIT. Only an IISc but it had no undergrad program back then. People who did not get into marquee colleges came to Bangalore to study in "payment" seats. Others sneered at them, but they toiled hard. They built apps. They wrote SQL queries. They ran lathes. The IITians and BITSians sneered at the "local" college alumni. The locals just shrugged it off, and continued grinding. The colleges soon saw a sure but steady uptick. But now, Bangalore's engineering colleges, once the underdogs, are among the best in the world. Every engineer knows the saying, "RV for 'tronics, PESIT for comps, Ramaiah for mech." Today, electonics engineers from RV are building the next generation of GPUs. PESIT's computer science alumni are outpacing their peers from IIT Bombay, Carnegie Mellon and Stanford in building next generation LLMs. And, IISc mech profs are queuing up at the gates of Ramaiah, begging its mechanical engineersto help them build the next generation of EVs and robotic dogs. The Jadavpur engineers are busy doing "aantlami" in South Calcutta pubs. The NIT graduates are wasting away smoking ganja and hashish. And the IITians are preparing for UPSC in the hopes of under the table income. Meanwhile, the Bangalore engineers of RV, PESIT and Ramaiah are quietly building not only Viksit Bharat but also Viksit America.
